His saying, the Exalted: "And when Our command came, We saved Shu'ayb and those who believed with him by a mercy from Us."

11181 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn told us, Muhammad ibn 'Isa told us, Salamah told us, Muhammad ibn Ishaq told me: It has reached me—and Allah knows best—that Allah unleashed upon them the heat until, when it had thoroughly cooked them, He created for them the shade like a black cloud. When they saw it, they rushed toward it, seeking relief from the heat they were in with its coolness. When they entered under it, it folded over them, and they all perished. Allah saved Shu'ayb and those who believed with him, and Shu'ayb was overcome with sadness for his people because of the vengeance of Allah that had descended upon them.

His saying, the Exalted: "And the blast took those who had wronged."

11182 - My father told us, Yahya ibn Salih al-Wasatani told us, Abu Ma'shar told us, from Muhammad ibn Ka'b al-Qurazi, who said: The people of Madyan were tormented by three types of punishment. One of them was the trembling in their homes, until they exited them. When they exited them, they were struck by severe fear and dreaded entering the houses lest they fall upon them. So Allah sent the shade upon them, and a man entered under it and said, 'I have never seen on this day a shade more pleasant or cooler. Come, O people!' So they all entered under the shade, and he [the Angel] let out a single blast against them, and they all died.

His saying, the Exalted: "And they became, within their homes, fallen prostrate."

11183 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed us, in what he wrote to me, that Asbagh ibn al-Faraj told us: I heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam regarding the saying of Allah: "And they became, within their homes, fallen prostrate," he said: "Dead."

His saying, the Exalted: "As if they had never prospered therein."

Its interpretation has already preceded, and Allah knows best.

His saying, the Exalted: "And We sent."

11184 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj told us, 'Ubayd Allah ibn Musa told us, from Isra'il, from al-Suddi, from Abu Salih: "Sent" (arsalna) means: We commissioned (ba'atha).

His saying, the Exalted: "With Our signs."

11185 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah told us, Shababah told us, Warqa' told us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid regarding "With Our signs," he said: "With clear proofs."
