His saying, the Exalted: "And they did not increase them except in destruction."
11209 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah told us, Shababah told us, Warqa' told us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding "And they did not increase them except in destruction (tatbib)": loss.
11210 - 'Ali ibn al-Hasan told us, Abu al-Jumahir told us, Sa'id ibn Bashir told us, from Qatadah, regarding His saying: "And they did not increase them except in destruction," meaning: ruin.
11211 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed me in what he wrote to me, Asbagh ibn al-Faraj told us, he said: I heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam saying regarding the saying of Allah: "And they did not increase them except in destruction," he said: Destruction (tatbib) is evil. He said: "And they did not increase them except in evil," and he recited: "May the hands of Abu Lahab be ruined (tabbat), and ruined (tubba)." He said: As for ruin (tabb), it is loss and evil; they did not increase them except in loss.
His saying, the Exalted: "And such is the seizure of your Lord when He seizes the towns while they are wronging [themselves]."
11212 - My father told us, Muhammad ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Numayr al-Hamdani (Abu Mu'awiyah) told us, Burayd ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Abi Burdah told us, from Abu Burdah, from Abu Musa, he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Indeed, Allah seizes the towns while they are wronging [themselves]; indeed, His seizure is painful and severe."
His saying, the Exalted: "Indeed, His seizure is painful and severe."
11213 - My father told us, Abu Salih told us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih told me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "Indeed, His seizure is painful and severe," he says: agonising.
11214 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed me in what he wrote to me, Asbagh ibn al-Faraj told us, he said: I heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam saying regarding His saying: "Indeed in that is a sign for those who fear the punishment of the Hereafter," [meaning]: We will certainly fulfill for them what We promised them in the Hereafter, just as We fulfilled for the prophets [the promise] that We would grant them victory.
His saying, the Exalted: "That is a Day for which the people will be assembled, and that is a Day witnessed."
11215 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj told us, Hafs al-Muktab told us, Idris told us, from a sheikh from Banu Asad, from Abu al-Duha, from al-Hasan and al-Husayn ibn 'Ali, he said: "Witnessed" is the Day of Resurrection. It has been narrated from Mujahid something similar.
