11216 - My father told us, Muqatil ibn Muhammad ibn Waki' told us, from Shu'bah, from 'Ali ibn Zayd, from Yusuf al-Makki, from Ibn 'Abbas, he said: The "witness" (shahid) is Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and the "witnessed" (mashhud) is the Day of Resurrection. Then he recited: "That is a Day for which the people will be assembled, and that is a Day witnessed."

His saying, the Exalted: "And We do not delay it except for a limited term."

11218 - My father told us, Abu Salih told us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih told me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "for a limited term" (li-ajalin ma'dudin), meaning: death.

So He said: "And We do not delay them except for a limited term."

His saying, the Exalted: "The Day it arrives, no soul will speak except by His permission."

11220 - My father told us, Yahya ibn 'Abd al-Hamid al-Himmani told us, Hudhayl ibn 'Imran al-Hamdani told us, Sharik told us, from Salim, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, regarding His saying: "except by His permission," he said: Who can speak in His presence except by His permission?

His saying, the Exalted: "Then among them will be the wretched and the prosperous."

11221 - Abu Sa'id al-Qattan told us, Abu 'Amir al-'Aqadi told us, from Sulayman ibn Sufyan, from 'Abd Allah ibn Dinar, from Ibn 'Umar, from 'Umar, he said: [When] "Then among them will be the wretched and the prosperous" was revealed, I asked the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah, upon what are we acting? Is it upon something that has already been finished, or upon something not yet finished? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Rather, upon something that has already been finished, and the pens have run their course [concerning it], O 'Umar, but everyone is facilitated [for what they were created for]."

11222 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj told us, Abu Khalid told us, from Ibn 'Awn, from Shaqiq ibn Salamah, he said: I heard 'Abd Allah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) saying: O people, you...
