11256 - Muhammad ibn al-Husayn told us, Ishaq ibn Sulayman told us, Abu Ja'far al-Razi told us, from al-Rabi' ibn Anas. (H) And Sahl ibn 'Uthman and 'Abd Allah ibn 'Imran told me, saying: Yahya ibn Yaman told us, from Abu Ja'far, from al-Rabi', from Abu al-'Aliyah regarding His saying: "And do not incline toward those who do wrong," he said: That you be pleased with their deeds.

11257 - My father told us, Muhammad ibn Abi 'Umar al-'Adani told us, he said: Sufyan was asked about His saying: "And do not incline toward those who do wrong," he said: Do not draw near to them, then he recited: "And had We not strengthened you, you would have almost inclined to them a little."

11258 - My father told us, Ahmad ibn Abi al-Khawazi told us, my brother Muhammad told me, he said: I asked Fudayl ibn 'Iyad about Allah's saying: "And do not incline toward those who do wrong," he said: Whoever they were, wherever they were, whoever they were, and in whatever time they were.

His saying, the Exalted: "Then the Fire will touch you."

11259 - Muhammad ibn Sa'id informed us in what he wrote to me, my father told us, my uncle told me, my father told me, from his father, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding "And do not incline toward those who do wrong, lest the Fire should touch you," meaning: Inclining toward polytheism (shirk).

11260 - 'Ali ibn al-Hasan told us, Abu al-Jumahir told us, Sa'id ibn Bashir told us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "And do not incline toward those who do wrong, lest the Fire should touch you," meaning: Do not rejoin polytheism, for it is the sin from which they repented.

11261 - My father told us, Hisham ibn Khalid told us, Shu'ayb ibn Ishaq told us, Sa'id ibn Abi 'Arubah told us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "And do not incline toward those who do wrong, lest the Fire should touch you," and he says: Do not rejoin polytheism, which is that from which you have exited. And by Allah, it is not as those of suspicion, innovation, and falsehood regarding Allah and His Book have interpreted it.

11262 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed us in what he wrote to me, Asbagh ibn al-Faraj told us, he said: I heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam regarding His saying: "And do not incline toward those who do wrong," he said: Do not incline toward the polytheists, lest the Fire should touch you. He said: The inclination is compromise (mudahanah), and he recited: "They wish that you would compromise so they would compromise (in return)." He said: "Inclining toward them and not denouncing what they said," and the inclination is that one speaks with what the compromise dictates.
