Volume 6 · Page 348His saying: 'That is a reminder for those who remember'

Translation · EN

11270 - 'Abd Allah ibn Muhammad ibn 'Amr al-Ghazzi told us, al-Firyabi told us, Sufyan told us, from Ibn Mas'ud who said: A man came to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and said: "I have done everything with her except sexual intercourse"—meaning with a woman. So Allah revealed: "And establish prayer at the two ends of the day and in the approach of the night. Indeed, good deeds remove evil deeds."

11271 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj told us, Hafs ibn Ghiyath told us, from 'Abd Allah ibn Muslim, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "Indeed, good deeds remove evil deeds": The five daily prayers. It was also narrated from Muhammad ibn Ka'b al-Qurazi similarly to the saying of Ibn 'Abbas.

11272 - Sa'd ibn 'Abd Allah ibn 'Abd al-Hakam told us, Abu Zur'ah told us, Wahb Allah ibn Rashid told us, Haywah informed me, Abu 'Aqil Zumrah ibn Ma'bad told us that he heard al-Harith, the freed slave of 'Uthman ibn 'Affan, saying: 'Uthman sat one day on the benches and we sat with him. When the mu'adhdhin came, he called for water—I think he meant that he performed wudu'—then he said: I saw the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, perform wudu' like my wudu' this, then he stood and performed the Zuhr prayer, and what was between it and the Zuhr prayer was forgiven for him. Then he performed the Maghrib prayer, and what was between it and the 'Asr prayer was forgiven for him. Then the 'Isha', and what was between them and the Maghrib prayer was forgiven for him. Then perhaps he passes his night rolling in his bed, then if he stands and performs wudu' then performs the Morning (Subh) prayer, what was between them and the 'Isha' prayer was forgiven for him. And those are the good deeds: "Indeed, good deeds remove evil deeds. That is a reminder for those who remember."

11273 - Ahmad ibn 'Isam told us, Abu 'Amir al-'Aqadi told us, 'Uthman ibn Bistam, the freed slave of Kathir ibn al-Salt, told us, he said: I heard 'Ata' ibn Dinar, regarding His saying: "Indeed, good deeds remove evil deeds," he said: And from the good deeds is his saying: "Subhan Allah, wal-hamdu lillah, wa la ilaha illallah, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah" (Glory be to Allah, and praise be to Allah, and there is no god but Allah, and there is no power nor strength except with Allah), and they are the lasting good deeds.

11274 - Muhammad ibn Yahya al-Wasiti told us, Muhammad ibn Bashir told us, Sahl ibn Humayd told us, from Hawshab, from al-Hasan, he said: Seek help against the old sins with the new good deeds. For you will never find anything that removes an old sin like a new good deed. Al-Hasan said: And I find the verification of that in the Book of Allah: "Indeed, good deeds remove evil deeds."

His saying, the Exalted: "That is a reminder for those who remember."

11275 - My father told us, Ibn 'Umayr told us, Sufyan ibn Abi Najih told us, from Mujahid, he said: A servant is not considered among those who remember Allah much until he remembers Allah standing, sitting, and lying down.
