10084 - Muhammad ibn 'Awf narrated to us, Haywah ibn Shurayh narrated to us, Baqiyyah narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ziyad who said: I heard Abu Umamah saying: "The adornment of swords is from the hoards. I am not narrating to you anything except what I have heard."

10085 - My father narrated to us, Hammad ibn Zadhan narrated to us, Hushaym narrated to us, from Husayn from Zayd ibn Wahb who said: I passed by al-Rabadhah and found Abu Dharr, and he said: "Mu'awiyah and I differed regarding this verse: 'And those who hoard gold and silver and do not spend it in the path of Allah.' Mu'awiyah said: 'It was revealed regarding the People of the Book.'"

10086 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman ibn Hakim reported to us in what he wrote to me, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi regarding His saying: "And those who hoard gold and silver"—he said: "These are the people of the Qiblah."

10087 - My father narrated to us, Ibn al-Tabba' narrated to us, Abu Usamah narrated to us, from 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Ziyad from Rashid ibn Muslim from 'Irak ibn Malik and 'Umar ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz, that they both said regarding the saying of Allah: "And those who hoard gold and silver," they said: "The other verse abrogated it: 'Take from their wealth a charity by which you purify them and cause them to grow.'"
His saying, Exalted is He: "And do not spend it in the path of Allah."
10088 - I read to Muhammad ibn al-Fadl, Muhammad ibn 'Ali narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Muzahim narrated to us, Bukayr ibn Ma'ruf narrated to us, from Muqatil ibn Hayyan regarding His saying: "And do not spend it in the path of Allah," he said: "Meaning: the obligatory Zakat and expenditure in the path of Allah and in His obedience."
His saying: "So give them tidings of a painful punishment."
10089 - Ahmad ibn 'Amr ibn Abi 'Asim al-Nabil narrated to us, 'Amr ibn al-Dahhak narrated to me, my father narrated to us, Shabib ibn Bishr reported to us, and 'Ikrimah reported to us from Ibn 'Abbas regarding the saying of Allah "of a painful punishment," he said: "'Alim (painful) is everything that causes pain." A similar interpretation was narrated from Abu al-'Aliyah, Sa'd ibn Jubayr, Abu Malik, al-Dahhak, Qatadah, Abu 'Imran al-Jawni, Muqatil ibn Hayyan, and al-Rabi' ibn Anas.
