‘Ata’, from his father, ‘Ata’ ibn Abi Muslim al-Khurasani, regarding “And among them is he who says, 'Permit me and do not put me to trial'”—it is said: Permit me and do not cause me to commit sin, and do not cause me to disbelieve.

His saying, the Exalted: "Surely into trial they have fallen."

10303 - (*) My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu‘awiyah ibn Salih narrated to us, from ‘Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn ‘Abbas regarding His saying: "Surely into trial they have fallen"—he means: Into difficulty they have fallen.

10304 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-‘Abbas ibn al-Walid reported to us, Yazid narrated to us, from Sa‘id, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "Surely into trial they have fallen"—he says: Surely into sin they have fallen.

His saying, the Exalted: "And indeed, Hell is surrounding the disbelievers."

10305 - ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Hafs ibn ‘Umar al-Mihraqani narrated to us, Muslim ibn Qutaybah narrated to us, from Shu‘bah, from Simak, from ‘Ikrimah, from Ibn ‘Abbas regarding "And indeed, Hell is surrounding the disbelievers"—he said: The sea. And it was narrated from ‘Ikrimah something similar.

His saying, the Exalted: "If good befalls you."

10306 - Abu Zur‘ah narrated to us, ‘Abd al-Jabbar ibn Sa‘id al-Musahiqi narrated to us, Yahya ibn Muhammad narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, from al-Hasan ibn ‘Atiyyah al-‘Awfi, from his father, from Jabir ibn ‘Abd Allah, who said: The hypocrites who remained behind in Medina began to report bad news about the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—saying: "Muhammad and his companions have struggled in their journey and have perished." Then, the news of the falsity of their statement and the well-being of the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—and his companions reached them, and that saddened them. So Allah the Exalted revealed regarding that matter concerning them: "If good befalls you, it distresses them; but if disaster strikes you, they say, 'We had taken our precaution before,' and they turn away while they are rejoicing."

10307 - My father narrated to us, Abu Hudhayfah narrated to us, Shibl narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid: As for His saying: "If good befalls you, it distresses them," the good is: well-being, ease, and spoils of war.

10308 - ‘Abd Allah ibn Sulayman narrated to us, al-Husayn ibn ‘Ali narrated to us, ‘Amir ibn al-Furat narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi regarding His saying: "If good befalls you, it distresses them," as for the good: if Allah grants you victory and returns you safely, that distresses them.
