Umayyah; from Banu ‘Amir ibn Lu'ayy: Suhayl ibn ‘Amr and Huwaytib ibn ‘Abd al-‘Uzza; from Banu Asad ibn ‘Abd al-‘Uzza: Hakim ibn Hizam; from Banu Hashim: Abu Sufyan ibn al-Harith ibn ‘Abd al-Muttalib; from Banu Fazarah: ‘Uyaynah ibn Badr; from Banu Tamim: al-Aqra‘ ibn Habis; and from Banu Nasr: Malik ibn ‘Awf; from Banu Sulaym: al-‘Abbas ibn Mirdas; and from Thaqif: al-‘Ala' ibn Harithah.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) gave every man among them one hundred camels and [another] one hundred camels, except for ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Yarbu‘ and Huwaytib ibn ‘Abd al-‘Uzza, for he gave each of them fifty. It was narrated from Muqatil ibn Hayyan and Qatadah that the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to reconcile the Bedouins and others.

10380 - ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, al-Muqaddami narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Yazid narrated to us, Juwaybir narrated to us, from al-Dahhak regarding "those whose hearts are to be reconciled": He said: They are a group from the leaders of the Arabs who come to him, so he spends on them from it as long as they remain, until they either embrace Islam or leave.

[The Second Aspect]

Those who interpreted it to mean that the reconciliation of hearts is still operative:

10381 - My father narrated to us, Musa ibn Isma‘il narrated to us, Hammad narrated to us, from Yunus, from al-Hasan who said: "And those whose hearts are to be reconciled" are those who enter into Islam.

10382 - My father narrated to us, Muqatil ibn Muhammad narrated to us, Waki‘ narrated to us, from Isra'il, from Jabir, from Abu Ja‘far who said: Today there are those whose hearts are to be reconciled.

10383 - Ahmad ibn Sinan narrated to us, Abu Ahmad al-Zubayri narrated to us, Ma‘qil ibn ‘Ubayd Allah narrated to us, who said: I asked al-Zuhri about the saying of Allah the Almighty: "and those whose hearts are to be reconciled." He said: Whoever embraces Islam, whether a Jew or a Christian. I said: "Even if he is wealthy?" He said: "Even if he is wealthy."

His saying, the Almighty: "and for those in bondage."

10384 - My father narrated to us, Hisham ibn ‘Ammar narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Shu‘ayb narrated to us, Bukayr ibn Ma‘ruf narrated to us, from Muqatil ibn Hayyan regarding the saying of Allah "and for those in bondage": He said: They are the mukatabun (slaves who have signed a contract of manumission). Similar to this has been narrated from al-Hasan and al-Zuhri.
