He said: A group of the Prophet's (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) companions settled in a corner, and some of them said to others: "By Allah, the most gluttonous among us, the most cowardly when facing the enemy, and the weakest among us are our reciters." The Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) called 'Ammar and said: "Go to this group and say to them: 'What did you say?' And if you question them, they will surely say: 'We were only conversing and playing.' Say: 'Is it Allah and His verses and His Messenger that you were mocking?'"
His saying, the Almighty: "They will surely say: 'We were only conversing and playing.'"

A man in the gathering said: "You lied, but you are a hypocrite, and I will surely inform the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace)." This reached the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), and the Quran was revealed. 'Abd Allah said:
