10204 - (*) Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas, the freedman of Banu Hashim, narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Salamah ibn al-Fadl narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Ishaq narrated to us, he said: Among the accounts of Noah and the account of his people, as Allah narrated upon the tongue of His Prophet Muhammad (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), and what the People of the Scripture mention—meaning, from the People of the Torah—and what has been preserved for us from the hadiths of 'Abd Allah ibn 'Abbas and 'Ubayd ibn 'Umayr, is that Allah (the Mighty and Majestic) sent Noah to his people. He remained among them for a thousand years less fifty years, calling them to Allah. Transgressions had spread on the earth, and the tyrants had multiplied therein, and they became exceedingly arrogant towards Allah. Noah, as is mentioned, was forbearing and patient; no prophet had encountered from his people more tribulation than he encountered, except a prophet who was killed.
His saying, the Almighty: "And 'Ad."
10205 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman ibn Hakim al-Awdi informed us, in what he wrote to me, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi, he said: 'Ad were a people in Yemen at al-Ahqaf. Al-Ahqaf are the sands. So he came to them and exhorted them and reminded them of what Allah has recounted in the Qur'an. They belied him, disbelieved, and asked him to bring the punishment upon them.
10206 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Salamah narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Ishaq narrated to us, he said: Among the accounts of 'Ad, according to what has reached me—and Allah knows best—is that they were an Arab people and they were worshippers of idols, which they worshipped instead of Allah. An idol was called Samadan, another was called Samud, and an idol was called al-Hana'. So Allah sent Hud to them and commanded them to affirm the oneness of Allah, not to worship any god with Him, and to refrain from oppressing people. He did not command them—as they mention, and Allah knows best—except with that.
His saying, the Almighty: "And Thamud."
10207 - Muhammad ibn 'Ammar al-Razi narrated to us, Sahl ibn Bakkar narrated to us, Dawud ibn Abi al-Furat narrated to us, from 'Alba' ibn Ahmar, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas: That Salih, the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), Allah sent him to his people, and they believed in him. Then he died, so they turned back after him from Islam. Then Allah revived Salih and sent him to them. He informed them that he was Salih, so they belied him and said: "Salih has indeed died, so bring us a sign if you are of the truthful." So he asked Allah to bring them a sign, and Allah brought them the she-camel. They disbelieved in it and hamstrung it, so Allah destroyed them.
