10309 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Bukayr narrated to us, 'Abd Allah ibn Lahi'ah narrated to us, 'Ata' ibn Dinar narrated to us from Sa'id ibn Jubayr regarding "Great," meaning: Abundant.
His saying, the Almighty: "O Prophet, strive against the disbelievers."

10300 - My father narrated to us, 'Ali ibn Zanjah narrated to us, Yahya ibn Adam narrated to us, Hasan ibn Salih narrated to us from 'Ali ibn al-Aqmar from 'Amr ibn Abi Jundub from 'Abd Allah ibn Mas'ud regarding His saying: "Strive against the disbelievers and the hypocrites," he said: With his hand; if he cannot, then with his tongue; and if he cannot, then with his heart, and he should meet them with a stern face.

10301 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to us from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "O Prophet, strive against the disbelievers and the hypocrites," he said: Allah commanded him to strive against the disbelievers with the sword. Similar was narrated from al-Hasan, al-Dahhak, Qatadah, Muqatil ibn Hayyan, and al-Rabi' ibn Anas.
His saying, the Almighty: "And the hypocrites."

10302 - My father narrated to us, Nasr ibn 'Ali narrated to us, Ziyad ibn al-Rabi' al-Yahmadi informed us from Hawshab from al-Hasan regarding His saying: "Strive against the disbelievers and the hypocrites," he said: The hypocrites with the legal punishments (hudud). Similar was narrated from Qatadah.
10303 - My father narrated to us, Ahmad ibn 'Abd al-Rahman al-Dashtaki narrated to us, 'Abd Allah ibn Abi Ja'far narrated to us from his father from al-Rabi' regarding His saying: "O Prophet, strive against the disbelievers and the hypocrites," he said: Striving against the hypocrites means that no act of disobedience appears from them but that it is extinguished, and no crime (hadd) is committed but that it is carried out.
