He smelled it, then placed it upon his eyes, so Allah restored his sight to him. Then they carried him to him. When they entered—and Ya‘qub was leaning upon one of his sons named Yahudha—Yusuf approached him with his troops and the people. Ya‘qub said: "O Yahudha, is this the Pharaoh of Egypt?" He said: "No, O my father, but this is your son Yusuf. It was said to him that you are coming, so he came to meet you with the people of his kingdom and the people." He said: So when he met him, Yusuf intended to initiate the greeting, but was prevented from that so that it might be known that Ya‘qub was more honored by Allah than he. He embraced him and kissed him and said: "Peace be upon you, O you who takes away sorrows."

His saying, the Almighty: "And when the caravan had departed."

11959 - Ahmad ibn ‘Isam narrated to us, Mu’ammal ibn Isma‘il narrated to us, Isra'il narrated to us, Abu Sinan narrated to us, from ‘Abd Allah ibn Abi al-Hudhayl, from Ibn ‘Abbas regarding His saying: "And when the caravan had departed," he said: When the caravan set out.

11960 - ‘Abd Allah narrated to us, al-Husayn narrated to us, ‘Amir narrated to us, from Asbat, from al-Suddi, who said: "And when the caravan had departed" from Egypt, heading toward al-Sham.

His saying, the Almighty: "Their father said: 'I truly smell the scent of Yusuf.'"

11961 - Abu Sa‘id al-Ashajj narrated to us, Ibn Fudayl narrated to us, from Dirar ibn Murra, from Ibn Abi al-Hudhayl, from Ibn ‘Abbas who said: Ya‘qub perceived the scent of Yusuf’s garment while he was at a distance of eight nights' travel from him.

11962 - My father narrated to us, ‘Abd Allah ibn Raja’ narrated to us, Isra'il reported to us, from Muslim al-A‘war, from Mujahid, from Ibn ‘Abbas who said: Ya‘qub perceived the scent of Yusuf from a distance of six days' travel.

11963 - Abu Zur‘a narrated to us, Minjab narrated to us, Bishr ibn ‘Umara reported to us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn ‘Abbas regarding His saying: "I truly smell the scent of Yusuf," he said: He perceived it from a distance of ten days' travel.

11964 - My father narrated to us, Ibn Abi ‘Umar narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from Abu Sinan, from Ibn Abi al-Hudhayl who said: Ibn ‘Abbas was asked while I was at his side: From how far did Ya‘qub smell the scent of the garment, regarding the word of Allah: "I truly smell the scent of Yusuf"? He said: He perceived it from a distance of eighty farsakhs. Ibn Abi al-Hudhayl said: And it is the distance between Basra and Kufa.
