Volume 7 · Page 103[Surah Yusuf (12): Verse 97]

Translation · EN

‘When the bearer of glad tidings came,’ and he is Yahudha, he cast the shirt upon his face, and he returned to seeing. Ya‘qub said to his sons: 'Did I not tell you that I know from Allah that which you do not know?'

His saying: 'They said: O our father, ask forgiveness for our sins for us; indeed, we were sinners.'

11982 - Yunus ibn ‘Abd al-A‘la informed us by way of reading, Ibn Wahb informed us, al-Layth ibn Sa‘d narrated to me: Ya‘qub and the brothers of Yusuf remained for twenty years seeking forgiveness for what the brothers of Yusuf had done to Yusuf, [but it] was not accepted from them until Jibril met Ya‘qub, peace be upon him, and taught him this supplication: 'O Hope of the believers, do not disappoint my hope; O Succor of the believers, succor me; O Helper of the believers, help me; O Lover of those who repent, accept my repentance.' Thus, it was answered for them.

His saying, the Almighty: 'He said, I will ask forgiveness for you from my Lord.'

11983 - Ahmad ibn ‘Isam al-Ansari narrated to us, Abu Ahmad al-Zubayri narrated to us, Musa ibn Muhammad al-Ansari narrated to us, from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Ishaq, from Muharib ibn Dithar, from his uncle, who said: I went out at dawn and passed by the house of ‘Abd Allah ibn Mas‘ud, and I heard him saying: 'O Allah, You commanded me and I obeyed You, and You called me and I answered You, and this is dawn, so forgive me.' When it was morning, I came to him and mentioned that to him. He said: 'Indeed, when his sons said to him: 'Ask forgiveness for us,' Ya‘qub deferred them until dawn.' It was narrated from Ibrahim al-Nakha‘i, Ibrahim al-Taymi, ‘Ikrimah, Abu Ja‘far Muhammad ibn ‘Ali, Sa‘id ibn Jubayr, al-Suddi, and Qatada similarly.

11984 - ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, al-Qasim ibn Khalifa narrated to us, ‘Amr ibn Muhammad informed us, from Khallad al-Saffar, from ‘Amr ibn Qays, regarding: 'I will ask forgiveness for you from my Lord,' he said: 'In the night prayer.'

His saying, the Almighty: 'Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.'

11985 - Abu Zur‘ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn ‘Abd Allah ibn Bukayr narrated to us, ‘Abd Allah ibn Lahi‘ah narrated to me, ‘Ata’ ibn Dinar narrated to me, from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr, regarding His saying: 'The Forgiving' means: Forgiver of sins; 'The Merciful' means: Merciful to the believers.

His saying, the Almighty: 'Then, when they entered upon Yusuf, he took his parents to himself.'

11986 - ‘Abd Allah narrated to us, al-Husayn narrated to us, ‘Amir narrated to us, from Asbat, from al-Suddi, regarding His saying: 'Then, when they entered upon Yusuf, he took his parents to himself,' then they brought their families and dependents. When
