12017 - My father narrated to us, Sulayman ibn Shurahbil narrated to us, al-Walid narrated to us, from Khulayd and Sa‘id ibn Bashir, from Qatada who said: When his parents and brothers came to Yusuf, and Allah gathered his dispersed family and comforted his eyes, and he was on that day immersed in a state of luxury of the world, he longed for his righteous fathers, Ibrahim, Ishaq, and Ya‘qub. So he asked Allah for his taking [to Him], and said: 'Cause me to die as a Muslim and join me with the righteous.'

12018 - My father narrated to us, ‘Abd al-‘Aziz ibn Munib narrated to us, Abu Mu‘adh al-Fadl ibn Khalid narrated to us, ‘Ubayd ibn Sulayman narrated to us, from al-Dahhak, regarding His saying: 'And join me with the righteous,' he said: He says, 'Forgive me when You cause me to die.'

12019 - ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Ibrahim Duhaym narrated to us, Abu Mushir narrated to us, Sa‘id ibn ‘Abd al-‘Aziz narrated that when death approached Yusuf, peace and blessings be upon him, he said: 'O my brothers, I have not sought retribution from anyone who oppressed me in the world, and I used to love to manifest good and conceal evil; that is my provision from the world. O my brothers, I have made my fathers partners in their deeds, so they have made me a partner with them in their graves.' He took a covenant from them, but they did not do it until Allah sent Musa, peace and blessings be upon him, who asked about his grave but found no one to inform him except a woman called Sharih bint Shir ibn Ya‘qub. She said: 'I will guide you to it on the condition that I stipulate with you.' He said: 'That is yours.' She said: 'That I become a young woman whenever I grow old.' He said: 'That is yours.' She said: 'And that I be with you in your degree on the Day of Resurrection.' It was as if he hesitated, then he was ordered to grant that to her, so he did. She guided him to it, and he brought him out. It is said: Whenever she became like a fifty-year-old woman, she became like a thirty-year-old, until she lived for 1,600 or 1,400 years, and until Sulayman ibn Dawud, peace be upon them both, reached her and married her.

12020 - ‘Abd Allah ibn Sulayman narrated to us, al-Husayn narrated to us, ‘Amir narrated to us, from Asbat, from al-Suddi, who said: When death approached Ya‘qub, he bequeathed to Yusuf that he should bury him next to Ibrahim and Ishaq. So he died, and he [Yusuf] perfumed him, then carried him to the Levant. When they reached that place, ‘Is saw [them] approaching and said: 'He has defeated me in the prayer, and by Allah, he shall not defeat me regarding the grave.' He refused to let them bury him. When they were delayed, Hisham ibn Dan ibn Ya‘qub—who was deaf—said to some of his brothers: 'What is the matter with my grandfather that he is not being buried?' They said: 'This is your uncle preventing him.' He said: 'Show him to me.' When they showed him to him, Hisham ibn Dan raised his hand and struck the head of ‘Is with a strike that made his eyes fall onto the thigh of Ya‘qub, and he killed him. So they were buried in one grave.
