Wahb ibn Munabbih, from his father, who said: When Yusuf was given the kingdom that he was given, his soul longed for his fathers, so he said, 'My Lord, You have given me [something] of sovereignty...' until His saying: '...and join me with the righteous.' He said: [He meant] his fathers Ibrahim, Ishaq, and Ya‘qub.
His saying, the Exalted: 'That is from the news of the unseen which We reveal to you.'
12022 - Musa ibn Abi Hammad narrated to us, from Asbat ibn Nasr, from al-Suddi, from Abu Malik, regarding His saying: 'That is from the news of the unseen,' meaning: these are narratives.
12023 - Muhammad ibn al-‘Abbas, the freed slave of the Banu Hashim, narrated to us, ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Salama narrated to us, Salama narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq: Allah says to His Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: 'That is from the news of the unseen which We reveal to you.'
12024 - My father narrated to us, al-Hasan ibn al-Rabi‘ narrated to us, ‘Abd Allah ibn Idris narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Ishaq narrated to us: 'That is from the news of the unseen which We reveal to you,' then: 'You have brought them the news of what they kept hidden from you of what they possess. You brought it to them as a proof of your prophethood and an argument for you against them.'
His saying, the Exalted: 'And you were not with them.'
12025 - My father narrated to us, Hisham ibn Khalid narrated to us, Shu‘ayb ibn Ishaq narrated to us, Sa‘id ibn Abi ‘Aruba narrated to us, from Qatada: 'And you were not with them,' meaning Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, saying: 'I was not with them.'
His saying, the Exalted: '...when they resolved upon their affair.'
12026 - ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Abu al-Jamahir narrated to us, Sa‘id ibn Bashir narrated to us, Qatada narrated to us: 'And you were not with them when they resolved upon their affair,' meaning: when they cast him into the bottom of the well.
His saying, the Exalted: '...and they were plotting.'
12027 - And by the same chain, from Qatada, regarding His saying: '...and they were plotting,' meaning: against Yusuf.
12028 - Al-‘Abbas ibn al-Walid ibn Mazid informed us, by reading, Ibn Shu‘ayb ibn Shabur informed me, ‘Uthman ibn ‘Ata’ informed me, from his father, ‘Ata’ al-Khurasani, regarding His saying: '...when they resolved upon their affair and they were plotting.' He said: They were the sons of Ya‘qub when they were plotting against Yusuf.
His saying, the Exalted: 'And most of the people, although you strive, are not believers.'
12029 - Abu Zur‘a narrated to us, Yahya ibn ‘Abd Allah ibn Bukayr narrated to us, ‘Abd Allah ibn Lahi‘a narrated to me, ‘Ata’ ibn Dinar narrated to me, from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr, regarding His saying: '...believers.' He said: 'Confirmers [of the truth].'
