12144 - My father narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Sufyan al-Khazzaz al-Kufi narrated to us, Hammad ibn Zayd narrated to us, from ‘Ali ibn Zayd, he said: Mutarrif recited this verse: "And indeed, your Lord is full of forgiveness for the people despite their wrongdoing." Then Mutarrif said: If people knew the extent of Allah's mercy, Allah's pardon, Allah's indulgence, and Allah's forgiveness, their eyes would be comforted.
12145 - My father narrated to us, Musa ibn Isma‘il narrated to us, Hammad narrated to us, from ‘Ali ibn Zayd, from Sa‘id ibn al-Musayyib, he said: When this verse was revealed: "And indeed, your Lord is full of forgiveness for the people despite their wrongdoing, and indeed, your Lord is severe in punishment," the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "Were it not for Allah's punishment and His indulgence, no one would enjoy life, and were it not for His warning and His punishment, every person would have perished."
His saying: "And indeed, your Lord is severe in punishment."
12146 - My father narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Sufyan al-Khazzaz al-Kufi narrated to us, Hammad ibn Zayd narrated to us, from ‘Ali ibn Zayd ibn Jud‘an, he said: Mutarrif recited this verse: "And indeed, your Lord is full of forgiveness for the people despite their wrongdoing, and indeed, your Lord is severe in punishment." And if people knew the extent of Allah's punishment, Allah's vengeance, Allah's might, and Allah's retribution, no tear would remain for them, and their eyes would not be comforted by anything.
His saying: "And those who disbelieve say, 'Why has a sign not been sent down to him from his Lord?'"
12147 - ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Abu al-Jamahir narrated to us, Sa‘id ibn Bashir narrated to us, from Qatada: "And those who disbelieve say, 'Why has a sign not been sent down to him from his Lord?'" He said: The saying of the polytheists of the Arabs.
His saying: "You are only a warner."
12148 - Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman al-Harawi narrated to us, Abu Dawud al-Hafari narrated to us, from Sufyan al-Thawri, from al-Suddi, from ‘Ikrimah, from Ibn ‘Abbas: "You are only a warner, and for every people there is a guide." He said: He is the warner and He is the guide, meaning the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace).
It was narrated from ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib, Sa‘id ibn Jubayr, Mujahid, Abu Salih, ‘Ikrimah, Abu al-Duha, al-Suddi, al-Dahhak, Abu Ja‘far Muhammad ibn ‘Ali, and ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd that the warner is the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace).
His saying: "And for every people there is a guide."

12149 - Muhammad ibn Abu Zayd al-Wasiti narrated to us, Ishaq ibn Yusuf al-Azraq narrated to us, from
قَوْلُهُ: وَإِنَّ رَبِّكَ لَذُو مَغْفِرَةٍ لِلنَّاسِ عَلَى ظُلْمِهِمْ.
١٢١٤٤ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ الْخَزَّازُ الْكُوفِيُّ، ثنا عمادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ زَيْدٍ قَالَ: تَلا مُطَرِّفُ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَذُو مَغْفِرَةٍ لِلنَّاسِ عَلَى ظُلْمِهِمْ ثُمَّ قَالَ مُطَرِّفُ: لَوْ يَعْلَمُ النَّاسُ قَدْرَ رَحْمَةِ اللَّهِ وَعَفْوِ اللَّهِ وَتَجَاوَزِ اللَّهِ وَمَغْفِرَةِ اللَّهِ لَقَرَّتْ أَعْيُنُهُمْ.
١٢١٤٥ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، ثنا حَمَّادٌ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ زَيْدٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ قَالَ: لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الآيَةُ وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَذُو مَغْفِرَةٍ لِلنَّاسِ عَلَى ظُلْمِهِمْ وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَشَدِيدُ الْعِقَابِ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: لَوْلا عُقُوبَةُ اللَّهِ وَتَجَاوُزُهُ مَا هَنَأَ أَحَدٌ الْعَيْشَ وَلَوْلَا وعيده وعقابه لا تكل كُلُّ أَحَدٍ.
قَوْلُهُ: وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَشَدِيدُ الْعِقَابِ.
١٢١٤٦ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ الْخَزَّازُ الْكُوفِيُّ، ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ زَيدٍ بْنِ جُدْعَانَ قَالَ: تَلا مُطَرِّفُ هذه الآية وإن ربك لذو مغفرة للناس عَلَى ظُلْمِهِمْ وَإِنَّ رَبِّكَ لَشَدِيدُ الْعِقَابِ وَلَوْ يَعْلَمُ النَّاسُ قَدْرَ عُقُوبَةِ اللَّهِ وَنِقْمَةِ اللَّهِ وَبَأْسِ اللَّهِ، وَنَكَالِ اللَّهِ مَا رَقَى لَهُمْ دَمْعٌ وَلا قَرَّتْ أَعْيُنُهُمْ بِشَيْءٍ.
قَوْلُهُ: وَيَقُولُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لَوْلا أُنْزِلَ عَلَيْهِ آيَةٌ مِنْ رَبِّهِ
١٢١٤٧ - حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ، ثنا أَبُو الْجُمَاهِرِ، ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ بَشِيرٍ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ:
وَيَقُولُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لَوْلَا أُنْزِلَ عَلَيْهِ آيَةٌ مِنْ رَبِّهِ قَالَ: قَوْلُ مُشْرِكِي الْعَرَبِ.
قَوْلُهُ: إِنَّمَا أَنْتَ مُنْذِرٌ.
١٢١٤٨ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْهَرَوِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ الْحَفَرِيُّ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ الثَّوْرِيُّ عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ إِنَّمَا أنت منذر ولكل قوم هَادٍ قَالَ:
هُوَ الْمُنْذِرُ وَهُوَ الْهَادِ يَعْنِي النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ.
وَرُوِيَ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ وَسَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ وَمُجَاهِدٍ وَأَبِي صَالِحٍ وَعِكْرِمَةَ وَأَبِي الضُّحَى وَالسُّدِّيِّ وَالضَّحَّاكِ وَأَبِي جَعْفَرٍ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ وَعَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ أَنَّ الْمُنْذِرَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ.
قَوْلُهُ: وَلِكُلِّ قَوْمٍ هَادٍ.
