12178 - My father narrated to us, Mahmud ibn Khalid narrated to us, al-Firyabi narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Khusayf, from Mujahid, regarding His saying: "And who is hidden by night," he said: One who is set upon his own path committing sins.

12179 - ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn al-Hisinjani narrated to us, Abu al-Jumahir narrated to us, Sa‘id ibn Bashir narrated to us, from Qatadah: "And who is hidden by night," meaning: In the darkness of the night.

His saying, the Exalted: "And walking openly by day."

12180 - My father narrated to us, Muhammad ibn ‘Abd Allah ibn Bakr al-San‘ani al-Maqdisi narrated to us, Abu Sa‘id the client of the Banu Hashim narrated to us, Sahl ibn Abi al-Salt narrated to us, he said: I heard al-Hasan saying regarding His saying: "Hidden by night and walking openly by day," and the "sarib" (the one walking openly) is the one appearing by day.

12181 - Muhammad ibn Sa‘d informed us in what he wrote to me, my father narrated to me, ‘Uqba narrated to me, my father narrated to me from Ibn ‘Abbas, regarding His saying: "And walking openly by day," he said: When he goes out by day, he shows people that he is free from sin.

12182 - My father narrated to us, Mahmud ibn Khalid narrated to us, al-Firyabi narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Khusayf, from Mujahid, regarding "And walking openly by day," he said: He manifests sins by day.

12185 - My father narrated to me, ‘Abd al-Kabir ibn Mu‘afa ibn ‘Imran narrated to us, Ja‘far ibn Sulayman narrated to us, from ‘Amr ibn Malik, from Abu al-Jawza’ regarding this verse: "For him are successive [angels] before and behind him, protecting him by the command of Allah," he said: This is specifically for the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.

12186 - My father narrated to us, Sahl ibn ‘Uthman narrated to us, Harun al-Muradi narrated to us, Juwaybir narrated to us, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn ‘Abbas, regarding His saying: "For him are successive [angels] before and behind him," he said: He means by the "successive ones" the kings who employ guards.
