His saying, the Exalted: "So they put their hands to their mouths."

12223 - From Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding "So they put their hands to their mouths," he said: They bit upon them. And in another wording: They bit upon their fingertips in rage at their messengers.

12224 - From Ibn Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding His saying: "So they put their hands to their mouths," he said: They inserted their fingers into their mouths. He said: When a person is angry, he bites upon his hand.

12225 - From Muhammad ibn Ka'b al-Qurazi (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding His saying: "So they put their hands to their mouths," he said: It is denial.

His saying, the Exalted: "And delays you to a specified term."

12226 - From Mujahid (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding His saying: "And delays you to a specified term," he said: What has been ordained of the term; when the term from Allah comes, it will not be delayed.

12227 - From Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) regarding the verse, he said: The messengers and the believers were treated as weak by their people, who overpowered them, denied them, and called them to return to their religion. Allah refused for His messengers and the believers to return to the religion of disbelief, and He commanded them to rely upon Allah and commanded them to seek victory over the tyrants. He promised them that He would settle them in the land after them, so Allah fulfilled His promise to them, and they sought victory as Allah commanded them to seek it.

His saying, the Exalted: "And We will surely cause you to dwell in the land after them."

12228 - From Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding His saying: "And We will surely cause you to dwell in the land after them," he said: He promised them victory in this world and Paradise in the Hereafter. Allah, the Exalted, clarified who among His servants will dwell in it, saying: "But for he who has feared the position of his Lord are two gardens." Indeed, for Allah there is a position which He stands, and the people of faith feared that position, so they stood [in prayer] and labored by night and day.

12229 - From 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn Abi Arwad (may Allah be pleased with him) he said: It reached me that the Prophet (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) recited this verse: "O you who have believed, protect yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is people and stones."
