as vegetation in a flood's debris. Then they will enter Paradise... written on their foreheads: 'These are the people of Hell, freed by the Most Merciful.' They will remain in Paradise for as long as Allah wills for them to remain, then they will ask Allah the Exalted to erase that name from them, so Allah will send an angel who will erase it. Then Allah will send angels with nails of fire, and they will close them upon those who remain in it, pinning them with those nails, so Allah will make them forgotten on His throne, and the people of Paradise will be preoccupied from them by their bliss and pleasures. This is His saying: 'Perhaps those who disbelieve would wish they were Muslims.' (1)

12329 - From Zakariya ibn Yahya, the owner of the rod, who said: I asked Abu Ghalib (may Allah be pleased with him) about this verse: 'Perhaps those who disbelieve would wish they were Muslims,' and he said: Abu Umama (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated to me from the Messenger of Allah (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): 'It was revealed concerning the Khawarij when they saw Allah's pardoning of the Muslims and of the community and the collective body, they said: Would that we were Muslims.' (2)

12330 - My father narrated to us, Abbas ibn al-Walid al-Khallal narrated to us, Zayd—meaning Ibn Yahya—narrated to us, Sa'id ibn Bashir narrated to us, from Qatada, from Abu Nadra, from Samura ibn Jundub, from the Prophet (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) regarding His saying: 'For each gate is a portion assigned,' he said: 'Indeed, among the people of the Fire are those whom the Fire will take up to their ankles, and among them are those whom the Fire will take up to their waists, and among them are those whom the Fire will take up to their collarbones, levels according to their deeds. That is His saying: "For each gate is a portion assigned."' (3)

His saying: 'Leave them, that they may eat and enjoy...'

12331 - From Ibn Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding His saying: 'Leave them, that they may eat and enjoy...' the verse. He said: These are the disbelievers. (4)

12332 - From Abu Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding His saying: 'Leave them,' he said: Let them be. (5)

His saying: 'And We did not destroy any city but that it had a known decree.'

12333 - From Mujahid (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding His saying: 'And We did not destroy any city but that it had a known decree.'
