comes to Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, as a polytheist, he has no plea. O my son, do not enter the grave while there is in your heart an atom's weight of arrogance, for arrogance is the cloak of Allah; whoever disputes with Allah regarding His cloak, Allah will be angry with him. O my son, do not enter the grave while there is in your heart an atom's weight of despair, for no one despairs of the mercy of Allah except the astray.
His saying: "Indeed, you are a people unknown."
12414 - From Mujahid regarding His saying: "Indeed, you are a people unknown," he said: Lot did not recognize them.
And regarding His saying: "...in which they were doubting [yamtarun]," he said: Regarding the punishment of the people of Lot.
His saying: "And follow behind them."
12415 - From Qatadah regarding His saying: "And follow behind them," he said: He was commanded to be behind his family, following behind them at the end when they were walking.
His saying: "And proceed where you are commanded."
12416 - From Al-Suddi regarding "And proceed where you are commanded," he said: Allah brought them out to the Levant (al-Sham).
His saying: "And We conveyed to him that matter."
12417 - From Ibn Zayd regarding "And We conveyed to him that matter," he said: We revealed it to him.
His saying: "And the people of the city came, rejoicing."
12418 - From Qatadah regarding "And the people of the city came, rejoicing," he said: They rejoiced at the guests of the Prophet of Allah, Lot, when they arrived at his home, because of what they wanted to do to them of the detestable [sin].
His saying: "Have I not forbidden you from [protecting] people?"
12419 - From Qatadah regarding His saying: "Have I not forbidden you from [protecting] people?" he said: They were saying, "Are you to entertain anyone or give them refuge?" He said, "These are my daughters, if you were to do [so]," he said: Lot commanded them to marry the women, and he wanted to protect his guests with his daughters, and Allah knows best.
His saying: "By your life, [O Muhammad], indeed they were, in their intoxication, wandering blindly."
12420 - From Ibn Abbas, he said: Allah has not created, dispersed, or originated any soul more honorable to Him than Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. And I have not heard Allah swear by the life of anyone else besides him. He said:

يأت الله عزّ وجل مشركًا فلا حجة له. ويا بني، لا تدخل القبر وفي قلبك مثقال ذرة مِنَ الكبر فإن الكبر رداء الله، فمن ينازع الله رداءه يغضب الله عليه. ويا بني، لا تدخلن القبر وفي قلبك مثقال ذرة من القنوط فإنه لا يقنط من رحمة الله إلا ضال.
قوله: إِنَّكُمْ قَوْمٌ مُنْكَرُونَ
١٢٤١٤ - عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ فِي قَوْلِهِ: إِنَّكُمْ قَوْمٌ مُنْكَرُونَ قَالَ: أنكرهم لوط.
وفي قوله: بِمَا كَانُوا فِيهِ يَمْتَرُونَ قَالَ: بعذاب قوم لوط.
قوله: وَاتَّبِعْ أَدْبَارَهُمْ
١٢٤١٥ - عَنْ قَتَادَة فِي قَوْلِهِ: وَاتَّبِعْ أَدْبَارَهُمْ قَالَ: أمر إِنَّ يكون خلف أهله يتبع أدبارهم في آخرهم إِذَا مشوا.
قوله: وَامْضُوا حَيْثُ تُؤْمَرُونَ
١٢٤١٦ - عَنِ السُّدِّىِّ وَامْضُوا حَيْثُ تُؤْمَرُونَ قَالَ: أخرجهم الله إِلَى الشام.
قوله: وَقَضَيْنَا إِلَيْهِ ذَلِكَ الأَمْرَ
١٢٤١٧ - عَنِ ابْنِ زَيْدٍ وَقَضَيْنَا إِلَيْهِ ذَلِكَ الأَمْرَ قَالَ: أوحينا إليه «١» .
قوله: وَجَاءَ أَهْل الْمَدِينَةِ يَسْتَبْشِرُونَ
١٢٤١٨ - عَنْ قَتَادَة وَجَاءَ أَهْل الْمَدِينَةِ يَسْتَبْشِرُونَ قَالَ: استبشروا بأضياف نَبِيّ الله لوط، حين نزلوا به لما أرادوا إِنَّ يأتوا إِلَيْهِمْ مِنَ المنكر «٢» .
قوله: أَوَلَمْ نَنْهَكَ عَنِ الْعَالَمِينَ
١٢٤١٩ - عَنْ قَتَادَة فِي قَوْلِهِ: أَوَلَمْ نَنْهَكَ عَنِ الْعَالَمِينَ قَالَ: يقولون إِنَّ تضيف أحدًا أو تؤويه قَالَ هَؤُلاءِ بَنَاتِي إِنَّ كُنْتُمْ فَاعِلِينَ قَالَ: أمرهم لوط بتزويج النساء، وأراد إِنَّ يقي أضيافه ببناته والله أعلم «٣» .
قوله: لَعَمْرُكَ إِنَّهُمْ لَفِي سَكْرَتِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ
١٢٤٢٠ - عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: مَا خلق الله وما ذرأ وما برأ نفسًا أكرم عليه مِنْ مُحَمَّد صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ. وما سمعت الله أقسم بحياة أحد غيره. قال
