12487 - From Ikrimah regarding [His saying:] "And you see the ships plowing through it," he said: They split the water with their bows.

12488 - From al-Dahhak regarding His saying: "And you see the ships plowing through it," he said: They are two ships running with one wind, each one facing the other.

His saying: "And that you may seek of His bounty."

12489 - From al-Suddi regarding His saying: "And that you may seek of His bounty," he said: It is trade.

His saying: "[And He has set] firm mountains [in the earth] lest it should shake with you."

12490 - From Qatadah regarding His saying: "Firm mountains," he said: The mountains. "Lest it should shake with you," he said: He stabilized it with the mountains, and if not for that, it would not have held any creation upon it.

12491 - From Qatadah regarding His saying: "Firm mountains lest it should shake with you," he said: So that it does not shake with you. They [the people] were upon the earth [and it was] swaying with them, and they were not stable upon it. Then they became stable in the morning, as Allah had placed the mountains, and they are the firm [mountains] as pegs in the earth.

12492 - From Mujahid regarding His saying: "Lest it should shake with you," he said: Lest it tilt with you. And regarding His saying: "And rivers," he said: In every province.

His saying: "And pathways."

12493 - From al-Suddi regarding His saying: "And pathways," he said: The pathways are the roads between the mountains.

His saying: "And landmarks."

12494 - From Qatadah regarding His saying: "And pathways," he said: Roads. "And landmarks," he said: They are the stars.

12495 - From al-Suddi regarding His saying: "And landmarks," he said: The rivers of the mountains.

His saying: "And by the stars they are guided."

12496 - From Ibn Abbas regarding His saying: "And landmarks," he means: The markers of the roads during the day. "And by the stars they are guided," he means: During the night.
