11423 - My father narrated to us, [saying] Hisham ibn Khalid narrated to us, [saying] Shu'ayb narrated to us, [saying] Sa'id ibn Abi 'Arubah narrated to us, from Qatadah regarding "And they sold him for a low price," he says: They sold him for a price of injustice, and "al-bakhs" (the low price) is injustice. The sale of Joseph was forbidden for them, [both] the act of selling him and his price.

His saying, the Almighty: "a few counted dirhams."

[The First Aspect]

11424 - 'Abd Allah ibn Raja' narrated to us, informed us [by] Isra'il, from Muslim, from Mujahid, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding his saying: "for a low price, a few counted dirhams," he said: Twenty dirhams.

11425 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, [saying] Ibn Idris narrated to us, from 'Atiyyah regarding "counted," he said: Twenty dirhams. He said: There were ten of them, and they divided them [getting] two dirhams each.

The Second Aspect:

11426 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, [saying] 'Uqbah ibn Khalid narrated to us, from Isra'il, from Jabir, from 'Ikrimah, meaning his saying: "a few counted dirhams," he said: Forty.

The Third Aspect:

11427 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, [saying] Shababah narrated to us, [saying] Warqa' narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding his saying: "a few counted dirhams": Twenty-two dirhams for the brothers of Joseph, [who were] eleven men. They were the ones who sold him when the one who let down the bucket brought him out.

11428 - My father narrated to us, [saying] 'Amr ibn Muhammad al-Naqid and Muhammad ibn Abi 'Umar al-'Adani both narrated to us, [saying] Sufyan narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Khalid, he said: I heard al-Suddi swearing by Allah that they only sold him for twenty-two dirhams, [and] they bought with it light and heavy clothing. The wording [of the narration] belongs to Muhammad.

His saying, the Almighty: "And they were of him among those who were indifferent."

11429 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, [saying] Ibn Idris narrated to us, from his father, from 'Atiyyah regarding "And they were of him among those who were indifferent," he said: When they sold him.
