for he is deserving to be satisfied with what Allah has apportioned for him, for the decree of Allah is better than one's own decree for oneself.

And by my life, we do not know if a girl is better for her family than a boy. Allah only informed you of their conduct so that you might avoid it and desist from it; for one of them would nourish his dog while burying his daughter alive (1).

12544 - From al-Suddi regarding the verse, he said: The Arabs used to kill those born to them of female children, burying them in the dust while they were alive until they died (2).

12545 - From Qatadah regarding His saying: "in humiliation (ala hawn)," i.e., disgrace (hawan) in the dialect of Quraysh (3).

12546 - From al-Suddi regarding His saying: "Evil is that which they judge," he said: How evil is that which they judge! He says: Something they do not accept for themselves, so how could they accept it for Me? (4)

12547 - From Qatadah regarding His saying: "And for Allah is the highest attribute," he said: The testimony that there is no god but Allah (5).

12548 - From Ibn Abbas regarding His saying: "And for Allah is the highest attribute," he said: He says, "There is nothing like unto Him" (6).

12549 - From Sa'id ibn Jubayr regarding His saying: "And if Allah were to impose blame on the people for their wrongdoing, He would not have left upon it any creature," he said: He would not have sent them rain (7).

12550 - From al-Suddi regarding the verse, he says: When rain is withheld, there would not remain any creature on earth but that it would die (8).

12551 - From Ibn Mas'ud, he said: The dung beetle is almost punished in its hole for the sin of the son of Adam. Then he recited: "And if Allah were to impose blame on the people for their wrongdoing, He would not have left upon its back any creature" (9).

12552 - From al-Dahhak regarding His saying: "And they attribute to Allah that which they dislike," he said: He says: You attribute daughters to Me and dislike that for yourselves (10).

12553 - From al-Suddi regarding His saying: "And they attribute to Allah that which they dislike," he said: They are the female children (11).

12554 - From Mujahid regarding His saying: "And their tongues describe the falsehood that for them is the best [outcome]," he said: It is the saying of the disbelievers of Quraysh: "We have sons, and Allah has daughters" (12).
