came. Then he entered, and there he was with a man sitting, and around him were people to whom he was narrating. He said: Who is this, O Jibrīl, and who are these around him? He said: This is Hārūn, the beloved, and these are the Children of Israel. Then he ascended with him to the sixth heaven and requested entry. It was said to him: Who is this? He said: Jibrīl. It was said: And who is with you? He said: Muḥammad. They said: Has he been sent for? He said: Yes. They said: May Allāh greet him as a brother and a successor; what an excellent brother, what an excellent successor, and what an excellent arrival he has arrived with. He entered, and there he was with a man sitting. He passed him, and the man wept. He said: O Jibrīl, who is this? He said: Mūsā. He said: Why is he weeping? He said: The Children of Israel claimed that I am the most honored of the children of Ādam before Allāh, and this is a man from the children of Ādam who has succeeded me in the world while I am in the other [world]. If it were by his own self, I would not mind, but with every prophet is his nation. Then he ascended with him to the seventh heaven and requested entry. It was said: Who is this? He said: Jibrīl. It was said: And who is with you? He said: Muḥammad. They said: Has he been sent for? He said: Yes. They said: May Allāh greet him as a brother and a successor; what an excellent brother, what an excellent successor, and what an excellent arrival he has arrived with. He entered, and there he was with a gray-haired man sitting at the gate of Paradise on a throne, and with him were people sitting, white of face like sheets of paper, and people in whose colors there was something. It was said: These who have something in their colors entered a river and bathed in it, and they emerged having become pure, and there was nothing left on their bodies. Then they entered another river and bathed in it, and they emerged having become pure of something of their colors. Then they entered another river and bathed in it, and they emerged having become pure, and their colors had become like the colors of their companions. They came and sat with their companions. He said: O Jibrīl, who is this gray-haired man, and who are these white-faced ones, and who are these who had something in their colors, and what are these rivers they entered? He said: This is your father Ibrāhīm, the first to have gray hair on earth. As for these white-faced ones, they are a people who did not mix their faith with injustice. As for these who had something in their colors, they are a people who mixed a righteous deed with another that was evil, then they repented, and Allāh accepted their repentance. As for the rivers, the first of them is the mercy of Allāh, the second is the grace of Allāh, and the third is that their Lord gave them a purifying drink. Then he reached the Lote Tree, which every one of your nation who is upon a rite reaches. It is a tree from the base of which flow rivers of water that is not stagnant, rivers of milk whose taste does not change, rivers of wine that is a delight to the drinkers, and rivers of purified honey. It is a tree in whose shade a rider travels for seventy years without crossing it, and a single leaf of it covers the entire nation. Then the light of the Creator, Mighty and Majestic is He, enveloped it, and the angels, peace be upon them, enveloped it like crows when they alight upon a tree. Then Allāh, the Exalted, spoke to him at that, and said to him: Ask. He said: You took Ibrāhīm as a friend (khalīl) and gave him a great kingdom, and You spoke to Mūsā
