His saying, the Almighty: "And fulfill every commitment. Indeed, the commitment will be [subject to] questioning."
13276 - From al-Suddi, may Allah be pleased with him, regarding His saying: "And fulfill every commitment. Indeed, the commitment will be [subject to] questioning," he said: "On the day this was revealed, one would only be asked about it, and then he would enter Paradise. Then [the verse] was revealed: 'Indeed, those who exchange the covenant of Allah and their [own] oaths for a small price, they have no share in the Hereafter.'"
His saying, the Almighty: "Indeed, the commitment will be [subject to] questioning."
13277 - From Sa'id ibn Jubayr, may Allah be pleased with him, regarding His saying: "Indeed, the commitment will be [subject to] questioning," he said: "Allah will question the one who broke the commitment about his breaking it."
13278 - From Maymun ibn Mihran, may Allah be pleased with him, he said: "Three things apply to the righteous and the wicked: the commitment is fulfilled for the righteous and the wicked." He then recited: "And fulfill every commitment. Indeed, the commitment will be [subject to] questioning."
13279 - From Ka'b al-Ahbar, may Allah be pleased with him, he said: "Whoever violates his pledge, it acts as a barrier between him and Paradise." He said: "And this nation will only perish through its violation of its commitments."
His saying, the Almighty: "And give full measure when you measure."
13280 - From Sa'id ibn Jubayr, may Allah be pleased with him, regarding His saying: "And give full measure when you measure," he means: for others; "and weigh with the straight scale," he means: the balance—and in the language of the Romans, the balance is called 'al-qistas'. "That is good," meaning: fulfilling the measure and the balance is better than giving less, "and best in [final] determination," meaning: in outcome.
13281 - From Qatadah, may Allah be pleased with him, regarding His saying: "That is good and best in determination," meaning: best in reward and outcome. It was reported to us that Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, used to say: "O community of clients [Mawali], you have been entrusted with two matters by which those before you perished: this measuring cup and this scale." He said: "And it was mentioned to us that the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) used to say: 'No man is capable of [obtaining] something unlawful and then leaves it, with nothing motivating him except the fear of Allah, but that Allah replaces it for him in this immediate world, before the Hereafter, with what is better for him than that.'"
