12893 - From Ibn Zayd regarding His saying: "And it took its course into the sea as a tunnel," he said: "The fish entered the open gravelly land after its death when Allah brought it back to life, then it formed a tunnel in it until it reached the sea. The 'tunnel' is a path; it reached the water, and it was dry gravelly land on the shore, after it had been eaten from for a long time, which was their provision, then Allah brought it back to life."
12894 - From Ibn Abbas that Moses, peace be upon him, split the fish, salted it, and ate from it for lunch and dinner. When the next day came, he said to his young companion: "Bring us our morning meal; indeed, we have suffered in this journey of ours fatigue."
12895 - From Qatadah, he said concerning the recitation of Ubayy: "And none made me forget it except Satan, that I should mention it."
His saying: "So they found a servant from among Our servants."
12896 - From Qatadah regarding His saying: "So they found a servant from among Our servants," he said: "They met a learned man who is called al-Khidr."
12897 - From Qatadah, he said: "The fish came upon a spring in the sea called the Spring of Life. When it touched that spring, Allah returned its soul to it."
His saying: "So they retraced their steps, following their footsteps."
12898 - From Qatadah regarding His saying: "So they retraced their steps, following their footsteps," he said: "Their returning upon their beginning."
12899 - From Ikrimah, he said: "He was only called al-Khidr (the Green One) because whenever he sat in a place, it would become green around him, and his clothes were green."
His saying: "Whom We had given mercy from Us."
He said: "We gave him guidance and prophethood."
12900 - From al-Suddi, he said: "He was only called al-Khidr because whenever he stood in a place, the grass would grow beneath his feet until it covered his feet."

١٢٨٩٣ - عَنِ ابْنِ زَيْدٍ فِي قَوْلِهِ: فَاتَّخَذَ سَبِيلَهُ فِي الْبَحْرِ سَرَبًا قَالَ: دَخَلَ الحوت في البطحاء بعد موته حين أحياه الله، ثُمَّ اتخذ فيها سربا حتى وصل إِلَى البحر. والسرب، طَرِيق حتى وصل إِلَى الماء وهي بطحاء يابسة في البر، بعد ما أكل منه دهرًا طويلًا وهو زاده، ثُمَّ أحياه الله «١» .
١٢٨٩٤ - عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ إِنَّ موسى عَلَيْهِ السَّلامُ شق الحوت وملحه وتغدى منه وتعشى، فلما كَانَ مِنَ الغد قَالَ لِفَتَاهُ آتِنَا غَدَاءَنَا لَقَدْ لَقِينَا مِنْ سَفَرِنَا هَذَا نَصَبًا «٢»
١٢٨٩٥ - عَنْ قَتَادَة قَالَ في قراءة أَبِي «وما أنسانيه إلا الشيطان إِنَّ أذكر لَهُ» «٣» .
قوله: فَوَجَدَا عَبْدًا مِنْ عِبَادِنَا
١٢٨٩٦ - عَنْ قَتَادَة فِي قَوْلِهِ: فَوَجَدَا عَبْدًا مِنْ عِبَادِنَا قَالَ: لقيا رَجُلاً عالمًا يقال لَهُ خضر «٤» .
١٢٨٩٧ - عَنْ قَتَادَة قَالَ: أتي الحوت عَلَى عين في البحر يقال لها عين الحياة، فلما أصاب تلك العين ردّ الله إليه روحه «٥» .
قوله: فَارْتَدَّا عَلَى آثَارِهِمَا قَصَصًا
١٢٨٩٨ - عَنْ قَتَادَة فِي قَوْلِهِ: فَارْتَدَّا عَلَى آثَارِهِمَا قَصَصًا قَالَ: عودهما عَلَى بدئهما «٦» .
١٢٨٩٩ - عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ قَالَ: إنما سمي الخضر لأنه كَانَ إِذَا جلس في مكان أخضر مَا حوله، وكانت ثيابه خضرا «٧» .
قوله: آتَيْنَاهُ رَحْمَةً مِنْ عِنْدِنَا
قَالَ: أعطيناه الهدى والنبوة «٨» .
١٢٩٠٠ - عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ قَالَ: إنما سمي الخضر لأنه إِذَا قام في مكان نبت العشب تحت رجليه حتى يغطي قدميه «٩» .
