Tafsir Ibn Abi Hatim
Volume 7 · Page 314[Surah Maryam (19): Verses 51 to 53]

Translation · EN

His saying (the Almighty): "And mention in the Book, Moses. Indeed, he was chosen, and he was a messenger and a prophet. And We called him from the side of the Mount at the right and brought him near, confiding in him. And We gave him out of Our mercy his brother Aaron as a prophet."

13144 - From Mujahid regarding His saying: "and he was a messenger and a prophet," he said: The prophet alone is one who is spoken to, and [revelation] is sent down to him, but he is not sent [to others]. The wording of Ibn Abi Hatim is: The prophets who are not messengers are those to whom revelation is sent, but they are not sent [to others], while the messengers are the prophets to whom revelation is sent and who are sent [to others].

13145 - From Qatadah regarding His saying: "side of the Mount at the right," he said: The right side of the mountain. And regarding "and brought him near, confiding in him," he said: He was saved by his truthfulness.

13146 - From Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "And We gave him out of Our mercy his brother Aaron as a prophet," he said: Aaron was older than Moses, but he only granted him his prophethood.

13147 - Abd al-Jabbar ibn 'Asim narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Salamah al-Harrani narrated to us, from Abu al-Wasil, from Shahr ibn Hawshab, from 'Amr ibn Ma'dikarib, he said: When Allah brought Moses near to confide in him at Mount Sinai, He said: "O Moses, when I have created for you a grateful heart, a remembering tongue, and a wife who helps you in good, then I have not withheld from you any good; and whoever has this withheld from him, then I have not opened for him any good."

13148 - From Sufyan al-Thawri, he said: It reached me that Ishmael and a companion of his came to a village. His companion said to him: "Either I sit and you enter to buy food for our provisions, or I enter and spare you that." Ishmael said to him: "Rather, you enter, and I will sit and wait for you." He entered, then forgot and exited, while [Ishmael] remained in his place until a year passed from that day. The man passed by him and said: "Are you here until this hour?" He said: "I told you I would not leave until you came." Then the Almighty said: "And mention in the Book, Ishmael. Indeed, he was true to his promise."

13149 - From 'Abd Allah ibn 'Amr ibn al-'As: Indeed, Idris was earlier than Noah. Allah sent him to his people, and Allah commanded them to say there is no god but Allah and to act according to what He willed, but they refused, so Allah destroyed them.
