13169 - From Dawud ibn Abi Hind regarding His saying: "who is righteous," he said: "A monotheist (muwahhid)."
From Ibn 'Abbas, he said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said to Gabriel: "What prevents you from visiting us more often than you do?" Then the verse was revealed.
13170 - From 'Ikrimah, he said: Gabriel delayed his coming to the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) for forty days, then he descended. The Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said to him: "I have not descended until I longed for you." Gabriel said to him: "I was more longing for you, but I was commanded [to wait]." Then Allah revealed to Gabriel: Say to him: "And We descend not except by the command of your Lord."
13171 - From al-Suddi, he said: Gabriel was detained from the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) in Mecca until he became sad and it weighed heavily upon him. He complained of that to Khadijah, and Khadijah said: "Perhaps your Lord has forsaken you or become displeased with you." Then Gabriel descended with this verse: "Your Lord has not taken leave of you, [O Muhammad], nor has He detested [you]." He said: "O Gabriel, you were detained from me until my thoughts became troubled." Gabriel said: "And We descend not except by the command of your Lord."
13172 - From Mujahid, he said: The messengers [angels] were delayed from the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), then Gabriel came to him and he said: "What kept you from me?" He said: "How can we come to you when you do not trim your nails, nor clean your knuckles, nor take care of your mustaches, nor use the toothstick (siwak)?" and he recited: "And We descend not except by the command of your Lord."
13172 - From 'Ikrimah regarding ["To Him belongs what is before us"] "what is before us," he said: The world, "and what is behind us," he said: The Hereafter.
13173 - From Sa'id ibn Jubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding "what is before us," he said: Of the affairs of the Hereafter, "and what is behind us," of the affairs of the world, "and what is between that," [which is] what is between the world and the Hereafter.
13174 - From Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding "and what is between that," he said: What is between the two trumpet blasts.
13175 - From al-Suddi regarding "And never has your Lord been forgetful," he said: Your Lord was never going to forget you, O Muhammad.
13176 - From Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) regarding His saying: "do you know of any similarity to Him?" he said: Do you know any equal or likeness to the Lord?
13177 - From Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) regarding "do you know of any similarity to Him?" he said: There is no one named 'the Rahman' (the Most Gracious) other than Him.

١٣١٦٩ - عَنْ داود بن أَبِي هند فِي قَوْلِهِ: مِنْ كَانَ تَقِيًّا قَالَ: موحدًا «١» .
عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لجبريل: «مَا يمنعك إِنَّ تزورنا أكثر مما تزورنا» فنزلت الآية «٢»
١٣١٧٠ - عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ قَالَ: أبطأ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أربعين يومًا ثُمَّ نزل، فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ «مَا نَزَلَتْ حتى اشتقت إليك» فقال لَهُ جبريل: «أنا كنت إليك أشوق ولكني مأمور» فأوحى الله إِلَى جبريل إِنَّ قل لَهُ: وَمَا نَتَنَزَّلُ إِلا بِأَمْرِ رَبِّكَ «٣» .
١٣١٧١ - عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ قَالَ: احتبس جبريل عَنِ النَّبِيّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بمكة حتى حزن واشتد عليه، فشكا ذَلِكَ إِلَى خديجة، فقالت خديجة: لعل ربك قد ودعك أو قلاك، فنزل جبريل بهذه الآية: مَا وَدَّعَكَ رَبُّكَ وَمَا قَلَى قَالَ: يا جبريل، احتبست عني حتى ساء ظني، فقال جبريل: وَمَا نَتَنَزَّلُ إِلا بِأَمْرِ رَبِّكَ
١٣١٧٢ - عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ قَالَ: أبطأت الرُّسِل عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ثُمَّ أتاه جبريل فقال: «مَا حبسك عني؟» قَالَ: كيف نأتيكم وأنتم لا تقصون أظفاركم، ولا تنقون براجمكم، ولا تأخذون شواربكم ولا تستاكون وقرأ وَمَا نَتَنَزَّلُ إِلا بِأَمْرِ رَبِّكَ «٤» .
١٣١٧٢ - عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ لَهُ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِينَا قَالَ: الدُّنْيَا وَمَا خَلْفَنَا قَالَ:
الآخرة «٥» .
١٣١٧٣ - عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ- رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ- لَهُ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِينَا قَالَ: مِنَ امر الآخرة وَمَا خَلْفَنَا مِنَ امر الدُّنْيَا وَمَا بَيْنَ ذَلِكَ مَا بين الدُّنْيَا والآخرة «٦» .
١٣١٧٤ - عَنْ قَتَادَة رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ وَمَا بَيْنَ ذَلِكَ قَالَ: مَا بين النفختين «٧» .
١٣١٧٥ - عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ وَمَا كَانَ رَبُّكَ نَسِيًّا قَالَ: مَا كَانَ ربك لينساك يا مُحَمَّد «٨» .
١٣١٧٦ - عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ- رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا في قَوْلِهِ: هَلْ تَعْلَمُ لَهُ سَمِيًّا قَالَ هل تعلم للرب مثلًا أو شبهًا «٩» .
١٣١٧٧ - عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ- رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا- هَلْ تَعْلَمُ لَهُ سَمِيًّا قَالَ:
ليس أحد يسمى الرحمن غيره. «١٠»
