13508 - From Qatada (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding His saying: "I feared that you would say, 'You caused division among the Children of Israel,'" he said: The righteous before you disliked division.
The Saying of the Exalted: "And I grasped a handful from the trace of the messenger."
13509 - From al-Hasan, that he used to read it as "faqabastu" (فَقَبَصْتُ) with a Sad. He said: And al-qabs (the grasping) is with the fingertips.
13510 - From Mujahid, he said: The gabdah (handful) is the capacity of the palm, and the qabsah (a small handful) is with the fingertips.
The Saying of the Exalted: "Then indeed for you in this life is to say, 'No contact.'"
13511 - From Qatada regarding His saying: "Then indeed for you in this life is to say, 'No contact,'" he said: It is a punishment for him. "And indeed for you is an appointment you will not fail," he said: [meaning] you will not be absent from it.
The Saying of the Exalted: "And look at your god which you remained devoted to."
13512 - From Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "And look at your god which you remained devoted to," he said: [meaning] you remained [worshipping]. "We will surely burn it," he said: with fire. "Then we will surely scatter it in the sea with a scattering," he said: We will scatter it into the sea.
The Saying of the Exalted: "We will surely burn it."
13513 - From Ibn 'Abbas, that he used to read it as: "lanuhriqunnahu" (لَنُحَرِّقَنَّهُ) with a light [recitation], saying: Gold and silver are not burned by fire; [rather] it is filed down with a file, then thrown into the fire, and it becomes ashes.
13514 - Qatada told us, he said: In some of the readings [it is]: "lanadhbahannahu" (we will surely slaughter it), then "lanuhriqunnahu" (we will surely burn it) with a light [recitation]. Qatada said: It had flesh and blood.
13515 - My father told us, from Nahik al-Azdi, that he read it: "lanuhriqunnahu" (we will surely burn it) with the nun vocalized with a fatha, the ra with a kasra, and it was read lightly.
The Saying of the Exalted: "The sea."
13516 - From Ibn 'Abbas, he said: The al-yamm is the sea.
13517 - From 'Ali, he said: The al-yamm is the river.
