The fifth interpretation:

11543 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Minjab ibn al-Harith narrated to us, Bishr ibn 'Umarah informed us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "And prepared for them a reclining place (muttaqa'an)," he said: She prepared for them a place to sit.

11544 - 'Abd Allah ibn Sulayman narrated to us, al-Husayn ibn 'Ali narrated to us, 'Amir narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi, regarding His saying: "And prepared for them a reclining place"—they were reclining upon it, and she gave each one of them a knife and citrons to eat.

11545 - My father narrated to us, Hisham ibn 'Ammar narrated to us, al-Walid narrated to us, Sa'id ibn Bashir narrated to us, from Qatadah regarding "And prepared for them a reclining place," Qatadah said: Ibn 'Abbas said: Have you not heard of the expression of the non-Arabs (al-a'ajim): "Sura"?

His saying: "And gave each one of them a knife"

11546 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Minjab narrated to us, Bishr informed us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "And gave each one of them a knife," he said: It was their custom when they set the table that every person among them was given a knife to eat with.

11547 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed us, in what he wrote to me, Asbagh ibn al-Faraj informed us, he said: I heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd regarding the saying of Allah: "And gave each one of them a knife," saying: She gave them citrons and honey, so they used to cut the citrons with the knife and eat them with the honey.

His saying: "And she said, 'Come out before them'"

11548 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Minjab narrated to us, Bishr informed us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas: "And she said, 'Come out before them,'" he said: When Yusuf went out before them, they were struck with amazement at him.

11549 - 'Abd Allah narrated to us, al-Husayn narrated to us, 'Amir narrated to us, from Asbat, from al-Suddi: "And she said to Yusuf, 'Come out before them.'"

11550 - Muhammad ibn Yahya al-Wasiti narrated to us, he said: Muhammad ibn Husayn al-Burjulani narrated to me, 'Ubayd Allah ibn Muhammad al-Taymi narrated to us, Durayd ibn Mujashi' narrated to us, from some of his elders, he said: "And prepared for them a reclining place and gave each one of them a knife," he said: She said to the overseer: Bring him in before them and dress him in white garments, for the beautiful person looks best in white. He said: So he brought him in before them while they were cutting what was in their hands. When they saw him, they cut their hands, and they were unaware of it due to gazing at him. They looked at him as he approached, then she signaled to him to return, so they looked at him as he departed, and they were cutting their hands with the knives, unaware of the pain due to their looking at him. When he went out, they looked at their hands, and the pain arrived, so they began to wail. She said to them: You have acted like this in one moment, so how should I act? They said: Exalted be Allah! This is not a human being; this is none other than a noble angel."
