elders, he said: "And prepared for them a reclining place and gave each one of them a knife," he said: She said to the overseer: Bring him in before them and dress him in white garments, for the beautiful person looks best in white. He said: So he brought him in before them, and they were cutting what was in their hands. When they saw him, they cut their hands, and they were unaware of it due to gazing at him. They looked at him as he approached, then she signaled to him to return, so they looked at him as he departed, and they were cutting their hands with the knives, unaware of the pain due to their looking at him. When he went out, they looked at their hands, and the pain arrived, so they began to wail. She said to them: You have acted like this in one moment, so how should I act? They said: Exalted be Allah! This is not a human being; this is none other than a noble angel."

11551 - My father narrated to us, Muslim ibn Yahya ibn 'Abd al-Hamid al-Dimashqi narrated to us, Suwayd ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz narrated to us, 'Abd al-Samad ibn 'Ali ibn 'Abd Allah ibn 'Abbas narrated to me, from his father, from his grandfather Ibn 'Abbas regarding "And when they saw him, they were struck with amazement at him," he said: When Yusuf went out before them, they began to menstruate from their agitation (joy/excitement). The poet said: We approach women when they are purified, and we do not approach women when they are struck with amazement (menstruating).
11552 - Yazdad ibn 'Umar al-Hamadhani narrated to us, al-'Ala' ibn 'Abd al-Malik ibn Abi Suwayyah narrated to us, 'Abd al-Samad ibn 'Ali al-Hashimi narrated to us, from his father, from his grandfather, regarding the saying of Allah, the Exalted: "And when they saw him, they were struck with amazement at him," he said: They menstruated.

11553 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Minjab narrated to us, Bishr ibn 'Umarah informed us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding "And when Yusuf went out before them, they were struck with amazement at him," he said: They magnified him. It is reported from al-Suddi the same.
11554 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed us, in what he wrote to me, Asbagh informed us, he said: I heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam saying regarding "And when they saw him, they were struck with amazement at him," saying: They magnified him and were confounded.
11555 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Muhammad ibn 'Isa narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, from Ibn Ishaq regarding "And when they saw him, they were struck with amazement at him," he said: Their minds were seized with wonder at him when they saw him.
أَشْيَاخِهِ، قَالَ: وَأَعْتَدَتْ لَهُنَّ مُتَّكَأً وَآتَتْ كُلَّ وَاحِدَةٍ مِنْهُنَّ سِكِّينًا قَالَ: قَالَتْ لِلْقَيِّمِ: أَدْخِلْهُ عَلَيْهِنَّ وَأَلْبِسْهُ ثِيَابًا بَيْضَاءَ، فَإِنَّ الْجَمِيلَ أَحْسَنُ مَا يَكُونُ فِي الْبَيَاضِ، قَالَ فَأَدْخَلَهُ عَلَيْهِنَّ، وَهُنَّ يَحْزُزْنَ مَا فِي أَيْدِيهِنَّ، فَلَمَّا رَأَيْنَهُ حَزَزْنَ أَيْدِيَهُنَّ، وَهُنَّ لَا يَشْعُرْنَ مِنَ النَّظَرِ إِلَيْهِ فَنَظَرْنَ إِلَيْهِ مُقْبِلا، ثُمَّ أَوْمَأَتْ إِلَيْهِ أَنِ ارْجِعْ فَنَظَرْنَ إِلَيْهِ مُدْبِرًا، وَهُنَّ يَحْزُزْنَ أَيْدِيَهُنَّ بِالسَّكَاكِينَ، لَا يَشْعُرْنَ بِالْوَجَعِ مِنْ نَظَرِهِنَّ إِلَيْهِ فَلَمَّا خَرَجَ نَظَرْنَ إِلَى أَيْدِيهِنَّ، وَجَاءَ الْوَجَعُ فَجَعَلْنَ يُوَلْوِلْنَ، وَقَالَتْ لَهُنَّ: أَنْتُنَّ مِنْ سَاعَةٍ وَاحِدَةٍ هَكَذَا صَنَعْتُنَّ فَكَيْفَ أَصْنَعُ أَنَا؟ قُلْنَ حَاشَ لِلَّهِ مَا هَذَا بَشَرًا إِنْ هَذَا إِلا مَلَكٌ كَرِيمٌ.

١١٥٥١ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ الدِّمَشْقِيُّ، ثنا سُوَيْدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ فَلَمَّا رَأَيْنَهُ أَكْبَرْنَهُ قَالَ: لَمَّا خَرَجَ عَلَيْهِنَّ يُوسُفُ حِضْنَ مِنَ الْفَرَحِ، وَقَالَ الشَّاعِرُ:
نَأْتِي النِّسَاءَ لَدَى إِطْهَارِهَنَّ، ... وَلا نَأْتِي النِّسَاءَ إِذَا أَكْبَرْنَ إِكْبَارًا.
١١٥٥٢ - حَدَّثَنَا يَزْدَادُ بْنُ عُمَرَ الْهَمَذَانِيُّ، ثنا الْعَلاءُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ أَبِي سَوِيَّةَ، ثنا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ بْنُ عَلِيِّ الْهَاشِمِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ فِي قَوْلِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلّ:
فَلَمَّا رَأَيْنَهُ أَكْبَرْنَهُ قَالَ: حِضْنَ.
وَالْوَجْهُ الثَّانِي:
١١٥٥٣ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ، ثنا مِنْجَابٌ، أَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ عُمَارَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي رَوْقٍ، عَنِ الضَّحَّاكِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، فَلَمَّا خَرَجَ عَلَيْهِنَّ يُوسُفُ أَكْبَرْنَهُ قَالَ: أَعْظَمْنَهُ، وَرُوِيَ عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ مِثْلَهُ.
١١٥٥٤ - أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَزِيدَ الْقَرَاطِيسِيُّ فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ، أنا أَصْبَغُ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ يَقُولُ: فَلَمَّا رَأَيْنَهُ أَكْبَرْنَهُ: أَعْظَمْنَهُ وَبُهِتْنَ.
