due to my sin, and a word my tongue uttered. He said: "By My Might, I will surely prolong your imprisonment for a few years." He said: "So he remained in it for seven years." It was narrated from al-Thawri similarly.
11643 - My father narrated to us, Mansur ibn Abi Muzahim narrated to us, Abu Sa‘id ibn Abi al-Waddah narrated to us, from Khusayf, from ‘Ikrimah, from Ibn ‘Abbas, who said: Joseph was punished three times. The second time: it was because of his saying: "Mention me to your master," so he remained in the prison for a few years. He was punished with the prolongation of his imprisonment.
11644 - My father narrated to us, ‘Ali ibn Muhammad al-Tanafisi narrated to us, Yahya ibn Adam narrated to us, from Isra’il, from Mansur, from Mujahid, [regarding]: "So he remained in the prison for a few years," he said: "The term 'bid‘' (a few) is from three to nine."
The second interpretation:
11645 - Abu Zur‘ah narrated to us, Minjab narrated to us, Bishr ibn ‘Umarah narrated to us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn ‘Abbas, regarding His saying: "So he remained in the prison for a few years," he said: "Twelve years."
And the third interpretation:
11646 - My father narrated to us, Muhammad al-Musaffa narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Himyar narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn ‘Umar, from Tawus and al-Dahhak ibn Muzahim, regarding His saying: "So he remained in the prison for a few years," they said: "Fourteen years."
His saying, the Exalted: "And the King said, 'Indeed, I see seven fat cows.'"
11647 - ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Muhammad ibn ‘Isa narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, from ‘Abd Allah ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid: Then the King, Rayyan ibn al-Walid, saw the vision that terrified him, and he knew that it was a vision that would come to pass, but he did not know its interpretation. So he said to the assembly around him from the people of his kingdom: "I see seven fat cows being eaten by seven lean ones, and seven green ears of corn and others dry."
His saying, the Exalted: "O assembly, give me your opinion regarding my vision, if you are able to interpret visions."
