His saying: "Then there will come after that seven hard [years]."

11671 - ‘Ali ibn al-Hasan narrated to us, Abu al-Jumahir narrated to us, Sa‘id narrated to us, Qatadah reported: "Then there will come after that seven hard [years], which will consume what you have prepared for them": and they are the years of drought and barrenness.

11672 - ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Abu al-Tahir narrated to us, Ibn Wahb reported to us, Ibn Zayd informed me, from his father, that Joseph, the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—in his time, would place for a man the food of two, and he would bring it near to the man, who would eat half and leave half. Then one day, he brought it near him and he ate it all. Joseph said: "This is the first day of the seven hard years."

His saying, the Exalted: "which will consume what you have prepared for them."

11673 - Abu ‘Abd Allah Muhammad ibn Hammad al-Tahrani informed us in what he wrote to me, ‘Abd al-Razzaq reported to us, from Ma‘mar, from Qatadah. As for his saying: "which will consume what you have prepared for them," he says: They will consume the provisions you had set aside during them.

His saying: "except a little from which you store."

11675 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu‘awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from ‘Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn ‘Abbas, [regarding] his saying: "except a little from which you store (tuhsinun)," he says: you hoard (takhzununa).

11676 - ‘Ali ibn al-Hasan narrated to us, Abu al-Jumahir narrated to us, Sa‘id ibn Bashir reported to us, from Qatadah, [regarding] his saying: "except a little from which you store," meaning: from which you save.

His saying, the Exalted: "Then there will come after that a year in which the people will be aided and in which they will press."

11677 - Muhammad ibn Sa‘d informed us in what he wrote to me, my father narrated to me, my uncle narrated to me, my father narrated to me, from his father, from ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Abbas, [regarding] his saying: "Then there will come after that a year in which the people will be aided and in which they will press," he says: Rain (ghayth) will befall them in it.

11678 - ‘Ali ibn al-Hasan narrated to us, Abu al-Jumahir narrated to us, Sa‘id ibn Bashir reported to us, Qatadah narrated to us, [regarding] his saying: "Then there will come after that a year in which the people will be aided," he said: The people will be aided with rain.
