Translation · EN

The verse: "Return to your lord and ask him what is the case of the women." He said: "If it were me, I would have hastened the answer and would not have sought an excuse."

11686 - My father narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Abi ‘Umar al-‘Adani narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from ‘Amr ibn Dinar, from ‘Ikrimah, who said: The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said: "I indeed marveled at Joseph, his patience, and his nobility; and may Allah forgive him. If it were I, and I was then invited to go out, I would have hastened to the door. However, he desired to have an excuse," because of the saying of Allah: "When the messenger came to him, he said: 'Return to your lord and ask him what is the case of the women who cut their hands. Indeed, my Lord is All-Knowing of their guile.'"

His saying: "He said: 'What was your affair when you solicited Joseph for himself?'"

11687 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed us in what he wrote to me, Asbagh narrated to us, he said: I heard ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam saying: So he sent [a message] to so-and-so and so-and-so, and he said: "What was your affair when you solicited Joseph for himself?"—the verse—and he said: "What is your matter?" They said: "Far be it from Allah! We know of no evil against him."

His saying, the Exalted: "They said: 'Far be it from Allah! We know of no evil against him.'"

11688 - Abu Sa‘id ibn Yahya ibn Sa‘id al-Qattan narrated to us, Abu Dawud narrated to us, Warqa’ narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, [regarding] his saying: "Far be it from Allah (Hasha lillahi)," he said: "I seek refuge in Allah."

His saying, the Exalted: "The wife of the Aziz said:"

11689 - ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Muhammad ibn ‘Isa narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq: "The wife of the Aziz said: 'Now the truth has become manifest.'"

11690 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih the scribe of al-Layth narrated to us, Mu‘awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from ‘Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn ‘Abbas, [regarding] his saying: "'Now the truth has become manifest,'" she says: The truth has become clear.
