Volume 7 · Page 60His saying (Exalted is He): '"I sought to seduce him, and he is surely of the truthful ones."'

Translation · EN

"I solicited him for himself, and he is surely of the truthful." He said: Al-Hasan, when he recited this verse, would say: "May Allah fight her! How bold she is!"

11692 - ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Muhammad ibn ‘Isa narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, from Ibn Ishaq, regarding his saying: "'Now the truth has become manifest,'" meaning: Now it has emerged and become clear; "I solicited him for himself."

His saying, the Exalted: "I solicited him for himself."

11693 - My father narrated to us, Ahmad ibn ‘Abdah al-Dabbi narrated to us, Hafs ibn Jumayh informed us, from Simak ibn Harb, from ‘Ikrimah, from Ibn ‘Abbas, who said: When the women were gathered, the Pharaoh of Egypt said to them: "Did you solicit Joseph for himself?" The wife of the Aziz said: "Do you know? I solicited him for himself."

His saying, the Exalted: "And he is surely of the truthful."

11694 - ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Muhammad ibn ‘Isa narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, regarding his saying: "'And he is surely of the truthful'" in what Joseph had said: "Indeed, she made a false claim against him."

His saying, the Exalted: "That is so he may know that I did not betray him in [his] absence."

11695 - Muhammad ibn Sa‘id informed us in what he wrote to me, my father narrated to us, my paternal uncle narrated to us, my father narrated to me, from his father, from Ibn ‘Abbas: "'That is so he may know that I did not betray him in [his] absence, and that Allah does not guide the guile of the betrayers'"—this is the statement of Joseph to his master when Allah willed his exoneration, for he mentioned that he had indeed felt a desire for her and she had felt a desire for him.

11696 - ‘Abd Allah narrated to us, al-Husayn narrated to us, ‘Amir narrated to us, from Asbat, from al-Suddi, who said: Joseph said, when he was brought: "'That is so he may know that I did not betray him in his absence regarding his household, and that Allah does not guide the guile of the betrayers.'"

11697 - Muhammad ibn al-‘Abbas narrated to us, ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Salamah narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq: Joseph said: "'That is so he may know'"—meaning Utayfir, his master—"'that I did not betray him in [his] absence,'" meaning: I would not oppose him regarding his household in a way that he does not know, "'and that Allah does not guide the guile of the betrayers.'"
