11698 - Ahmad ibn ‘Isam al-Ansari narrated to us, Abu Ahmad narrated to us, Isra’il narrated to us, from Simak, from ‘Ikrimah, from Ibn ‘Abbas who said: This was the statement of Joseph: "That is so he may know that I did not betray him in [his] absence," then Gabriel nudged him and said: "Not even when you felt desire?" So he said: "And I do not absolve myself. Indeed, the soul is a persistent enjoinder of evil."
11699 - My father narrated to us, Yahya ibn ‘Abd al-Hamid al-Himmani narrated to us, Khalid ibn ‘Abd Allah narrated to us, from Bayan, from Hakim ibn Jabir regarding His saying: "That is so he may know that I did not betray him in [his] absence." He said: Gabriel said to him: "Not even when you unfastened the trousers?" He said: So he stated at that moment: "And I do not absolve myself. Indeed, the soul is a persistent enjoinder of evil." It was narrated from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr similarly.
11700 - My father narrated to us, Abu al-Walid narrated to us, al-Sari ibn Yahya narrated to us, from al-Hasan regarding His saying: "That is so he may know that I did not betray him in [his] absence." He said: The Prophet of Allah feared that he might have praised himself, so he said: "And I do not absolve myself"—the verse.
11701 - ‘Abd Allah narrated to us, al-Husayn narrated to us, ‘Amir narrated to us, from Asbat, from al-Suddi: The wife of the Aziz said: "O Joseph, not even when you unfastened the trousers?" Joseph said: "And I do not absolve myself."
11702 - ‘Ali ibn al-Hasan narrated to us, Abu al-Jamahir narrated to us, Sa‘id ibn Bashir narrated to us, Qatadah narrated to us, who said: It was mentioned to us that the angel who was with Joseph said: "Mention what you felt desire for." He said: "And I do not absolve myself. Indeed, the soul is a persistent enjoinder of evil."

11703 - My father narrated to us, Musa ibn Isma‘il narrated to us, Mubarak narrated to us, from al-Hasan regarding His saying: "And I do not absolve myself. Indeed, the soul is a persistent enjoinder of evil," meaning: the desire which he felt.
11704 - My father narrated to us, Ahmad ibn Abi al-Hawwari narrated to us, Abu Khuzaymah narrated to me, who said: I heard ‘Abd al-‘Aziz ibn ‘Umayr saying: "Indeed, the soul is a persistent enjoinder of evil, so when resolve comes from Allah, it is that which calls you to modesty."

١١٦٩٨ - حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عِصَامٍ الأَنْصَارِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ، ثنا إِسْرَائِيلُ، عَنْ سِمَاكٍ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: هَذَا قَوْلُ يُوسُفَ: ذَلِكَ لِيَعْلَمَ أَنِّي لَمْ أَخُنْهُ بِالْغَيْبِ فَغَمَزَهُ جِبْرِيلُ، فَقَالَ: وَلا حِينَ هَمَمْتَ؟ فَقَالَ: وَمَا أُبَرِّئُ نَفْسِي إِنَّ النَّفْسَ لأَمَّارَةٌ بِالسُّوءِ.
١١٦٩٩ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ الْحِمَّانِيُّ، ثنا خَالِدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنْ بَيَانٍ، عَنْ حَكِيمِ بْنِ جَابِرٍ فِي قَوْلِهِ: ذَلِكَ لِيَعْلَمَ أَنِّي لَمْ أَخُنْهُ بِالْغَيْبِ. قَالَ: فَقَالَ لَهُ جِبْرِيلُ: وَلا حِينَ حَلَلْتَ السَّرَاوِيلَ؟. قَالَ: فَقَالَ عِنْدَ ذَلِكَ. وَمَا أُبَرِّئُ نَفْسِي إِنَّ النَّفْسَ لأَمَّارَةٌ بِالسُّوءِ وَرُوِيَ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ مِثْلُ ذَلِكَ.
١١٧٠٠ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ، ثنا السَّرِيُّ بْنُ يَحْيَى، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ فِي قَوْلِهِ:
ذَلِكَ لِيَعْلَمَ أَنِّي لَمْ أَخُنْهُ بِالْغَيْبِ. قَالَ: خَشِيَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ أَنْ يَكُونَ زَكَّى نَفْسَهُ، فقال: وما أبرئ نفسي الْآيَةَ.
١١٧٠١ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ، ثنا الْحُسَيْنُ، ثنا عَامِرٌ، عَنْ أَسْبَاطٍ، عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ قَالَتِ امْرَأَةُ الْعَزِيزِ يَا يُوسُفَ وَلا حِينَ حَلَلْتَ السَّرَاوِيلَ؟ قَالَ يُوسُفُ: وَمَا أُبَرِّئُ نَفْسِي.
١١٧٠٢ - حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ، ثنا أَبُو الْجُمَاهِرِ، ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ بَشِيرٍ، ثنا قَتَادَةُ قَالَ: ذُكِرَ لَنَا أَنَّ الْمَلَكَ الَّذِي مَعَ يُوسُفَ قَالَ اذْكُرْ مَا همت بِهِ، قَالَ: وَمَا أُبَرِّئُ نَفْسِي إِنَّ النَّفْسَ لأَمَّارَةٌ بِالسُّوءِ.
قَوْلُهُ: إِنَّ النَّفْسَ لأَمَّارَةٌ بِالسُّوءِ.
١١٧٠٣ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، ثنا مُبَارَكٌ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ فِي قَوْلِهِ:
وَمَا أُبَرِّئُ نَفْسِي إِنَّ النَّفْسَ لأَمَّارَةٌ بِالسُّوءِ. يَعْنِي: هَمَّتَهُ الَّتِي هَمَّ بِهَا.
١١٧٠٤ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَبِي الْحَوَارِيِّ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو خُزَيْمَةَ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ الْعَزِيزِ بْنَ عُمَيْرٍ يَقُولُ إنِ النَّفْسِ أَمَّارَةٌ بِالسُّوءِ، فَإِذَا جَاءَ الْعَزْمُ مِنَ اللَّهِ كَانَتْ هِيَ الَّتِي تَدْعُوكَ إِلَى الْحَيَاءِ.
