His saying, the Exalted: "He could not have taken his brother."

11823 - ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Muhammad ibn ‘Isa narrated to us, Salama narrated to us, from Ibn Ishaq: Allah says: "Thus did We plan for Yusuf; he could not have taken his brother in the religion of the king," meaning: by injustice, but Allah planned for him to bring his brother to him.

His saying, the Exalted: "In the religion of the king."

11824 - Muhammad ibn Sa‘id al-‘Awfi informed us - and he wrote to me - my father narrated to me, my uncle narrated to me, my father narrated to me, from his father, from ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Abbas, regarding His saying: "He could not have taken his brother in the religion of the king," he says: In the authority of the king.

11825 - ‘Ali ibn al-Hasan narrated to us, Abu al-Jumahir narrated to us, Sa‘id ibn Bashir informed us, Qatada narrated to us, saying: "He could not have taken his brother in the religion of the king," he said: It was not in the king’s decree that he should enslave a man who steals from him.

11826 - Isma‘il ibn Ishaq ibn Sahl al-Kufi, a resident of Egypt, narrated to us, Qays ibn Hafs al-Basri narrated to us, ‘Abd al-Wahid ibn Ziyad narrated to us, Abu Rawq narrated to us, from al-Dahhak, regarding His saying: "He could not have taken his brother in the religion of the king," he said: It was the custom in the religion of their king that if stolen property was found with the thief, it was taken from him along with an equivalent amount of his wealth, and it was given to the one whose property was stolen.

His saying, the Exalted: "Except that Allah should will."

11827 - Hajjaj ibn Hamza narrated to us, Shababa narrated to us, Warqa’ narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding His saying: "In the religion of the king, except that Allah should will," meaning: Except for a stratagem that Allah planned for him, which Yusuf used as a pretext.

His saying, the Exalted: "We raise in degrees whom We will."
