Humran, from Sa'id, from Qatadah: "When they said, 'Joseph and his brother'," meaning: Benjamin. And he is the brother of Joseph from his father and his mother.
[His saying, the Almighty: "And we are a band"]
[The first opinion]
11350 - My father narrated to us, [saying] Hisham ibn Khalid narrated to us, [saying] Shu'ayb ibn Ishaq narrated to us, [saying] Sa'id ibn Abi 'Arubah narrated to us, from Qatadah [regarding] His saying: "And we are a band," he said: The 'usbah (band) is between ten and forty. It was narrated from Abu al-Malih the same as that.
11351 - 'Abd Allah ibn Sulayman narrated to us, [saying] al-Husayn ibn 'Ali narrated to us, [saying] 'Amir ibn al-Furat narrated to us, from Asbat, from al-Suddi [regarding] "And we are a band," he said: They were ten.
And the second opinion:
11352 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, [saying] 'Uthman ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us, [saying] Salamah ibn al-Fadl narrated to us, [saying] Hajjaj, from al-Hakam, he said: The band is forty men.
And the third opinion:
11353 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, [saying] Sa'id ibn al-Rabi' narrated to us, [saying] Abu 'Awanah narrated to us, from Abu Bishr, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, he said: I asked: How many is the band? He said: Six or seven.
11354 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed us in what he wrote to me, [saying] Asbagh ibn al-Faraj narrated to us, he said: I heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam regarding the saying of Allah the Almighty: "And we are a band," he said: The band is the group.
His saying, the Almighty: "Indeed, our father is clearly astray"
11355 - 'Abd Allah narrated to us, [saying] al-Husayn narrated to us, [saying] 'Amir narrated to us, [saying] Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi [regarding] "Indeed, our father is clearly astray," they said: In error regarding our affair.
His saying, the Almighty: "Kill Joseph or cast him out to [another] land"
11356 - 'Abd Allah narrated to us, [saying] al-Husayn narrated to us, [saying] 'Amir narrated to us, [saying] Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi regarding His saying: "Kill Joseph or cast him out to [another] land; [thereby] will your father's favor be free for you, and you will be, after that, righteous people," he says: You will repent from what you did to him.
