"And let not those among you who are blessed with grace and wealth swear not to give to their kinsmen." He read until he reached, "Would you not like that Allah should forgive you?" Abu Bakr said: "Yes, by Allah, I would love for Allah to forgive me." So he returned the financial support to Mistah that he used to provide for him and said: "By Allah, I will never withdraw it from him ever." 'Aisha said: "The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) asked Zaynab bint Jahsh, his wife, about my affair. He said: 'O Zaynab, what have you known or seen?' She said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I protect my hearing and my sight. By Allah, I have known nothing but good.' She was the one who used to rival me among the wives of the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), yet Allah protected her through piety. As for her sister, Hamnah, she began to fight on her behalf, so she perished among those who perished." Ibn Shihab said: "This is what reached me of the account of these individuals from the narration of 'Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her and her father)."
14207 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, [saying]: Yahya ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Bukayr narrated to us, [saying]: Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to me, [saying]: 'Ata' ibn Dinar narrated to me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr regarding the saying of the Almighty, "Verily, those who brought forth the slander are a group among you." [The context is] that the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) set out for a military campaign and took 'Aisha bint Abi Bakr, the wife of the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), with him. With the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) that day was a companion called Safwan ibn al-Mu'attal from Banu Sulaym. When the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) traveled by night, Safwan would stay behind in his place until morning; if anything fell from the belongings of the Muslims, he would carry it to the camp and identify it, and when the owner came, he would hand it over to him. When 'Aisha was called to depart one night, she rode her mount and entered her howdah. Then she remembered some jewelry of hers that she had forgotten at the stopping place, so she descended to retrieve it. The owner of the camel did not notice her, so it stood up and traveled with the camp. When 'Aisha found her jewelry, the camel had already gone. She began to walk in the tracks of the camp while weeping. Safwan ibn al-Mu'attal woke up at the stopping place, then traveled following the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), and he found 'Aisha covering her face, weeping. Safwan said: "Who is this?" Then he got off his camel, and he carried her on his camel. The Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) and his companions had stopped and discovered 'Aisha was missing, but could not find her. They stayed [there] as long as Allah willed, when Safwan arrived, having carried her on his camel. 'Abd Allah ibn Ubayy the hypocrite, Hassan ibn Thabit, Mistah ibn Uthatha, and Hamnah bint Jahsh al-Asadiyyah slandered her. 'Abd Allah ibn Ubayy the hypocrite said: "'Aisha has not been innocent regarding Safwan, nor has Safwan been innocent regarding her," and the people delved into that. Some of them said: "It happened such and..."
