the slander as trivial, and in His saying: "and it is in the sight of Allah great," meaning in terms of sin. And in His saying: "And why, when you heard it," meaning: the slander, [did you not] say: "It is not for us," meaning: it is not befitting for us. And in His saying: "to speak of this," meaning: the slander, "when our eyes have not seen it."
14237 - My father narrated to us, [saying]: Hawdhah narrated to us, [saying]: 'Awf narrated to us, from al-Hasan regarding: "It is not for us to speak of this," [he said]: They said: It is not befitting for us to speak of this, unless four witnesses stand against it, or the prescribed punishment for adultery is carried out upon the person [accused].
His saying: "Exalted are You, this is a great slander."
14238 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj narrated to us, [saying]: Hafs ibn Ghiyath narrated to us, from Hajjaj, from Ibn Abi Mulaykah, from Ibn 'Abbas: "Subhanaka (Exalted are You)," he said: It is Allah declaring Himself free from evil.
14239 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, [saying]: Ibn Bukayr narrated to us, [saying]: Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to me, [saying]: 'Ata' narrated to me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, regarding the saying of Allah: "Exalted are You," meaning: Why did you not say, "Exalted are You, this is a great slander," meaning: Why did you not say: "This is a lie, a great slander," like what Sa'd ibn Mu'adh al-Ansari said? That is because when Sa'd heard the statement of those who waded into the affair of 'Aisha, he said: "Exalted are You, this is a great slander." And "al-buhtan" (slander) is that which one falsely fabricates by saying that which did not occur.
His saying, the Almighty: "Allah admonishes you."
14240 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj narrated to us, [saying]: Hafs ibn 'Umar and al-Muharibi narrated to us, from Layth, from al-Hakam, from Miqsam, from Ibn 'Abbas: "Allah admonishes you against returning to the like of this ever," he said: Allah forbids you from returning to the like of this ever.
14241 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, [saying]: Yahya ibn 'Abd Allah narrated to us, [saying]: Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to me, [saying]: 'Ata' narrated to me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, [who] said: Then Allah admonished those who waded into the affair of 'Aisha, so He said: "Allah admonishes you against returning to the like of this ever," meaning: the slander, "if you are believers," meaning: if you are confirmers [of the faith]. And regarding His saying: "And Allah clarifies the verses to you," meaning: what He mentioned of admonitions.
His saying: "And Allah is Knowing, Wise."
Its explanation has already preceded.
His saying: "Indeed, those who like."
14242 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, [saying]: Yahya ibn 'Abd Allah narrated to us, [saying]: Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to me, [saying]: 'Ata' narrated to me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, regarding His saying: "Indeed, those who like," meaning: the slander of 'Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her.
