His saying: "And Allah is Knowing, and you do not know."
14250 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, [saying]: Musa ibn Harun al-Dulabi narrated to us, [saying]: Marwan narrated to us, from Juwaybir, from al-Dahhak regarding the saying of Allah: "And Allah is Knowing, and you do not know," [he said]: He knows the affection of each person for their companion, which you do not know.
14251 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, [saying]: Ibn Bukayr narrated to us, [saying]: Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to me, [saying]: 'Ata' narrated to me, from Sa'id, regarding the saying of Allah the Almighty: "And if not for the favor of Allah upon you and His mercy, He would have punished you"—for what you said about 'Aisha. "And that Allah is Kind," meaning: He is kind to you; "Merciful," when He pardoned [you] and did not punish you for what you said of slander.
His saying: "O you who have believed."
14252 - Zayd ibn Isma'il al-Sa'igh narrated to us, [saying]: Mu'awiyah ibn Hisham narrated to us, [saying]: 'Isa ibn Rashid narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Badhimah, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas, [who] said: There is no verse in the Qur'an [beginning with] "O you who have believed," except that 'Ali is its noble one, its master, and its commander; and there is no one among the companions of Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, but that he was admonished in the Qur'an, except for 'Ali ibn Abi Talib, for he was not admonished in any part of it.
And its interpretation has already preceded more than once.
His saying, the Almighty: "Do not follow the footsteps of Satan."
[The First Aspect]
14253 - My father narrated to me, [saying]: Hassan ibn 'Abd Allah al-Misri narrated to us, [saying]: al-Sari ibn Yahya narrated to us, from Sulayman al-Taymi, from Abu Rafi', [who] said: I became angry with my wife, and she said: "She is a Jewess for a day, and a Christian for a day, and every slave she possesses is free, if you do not divorce your wife." So I went to 'Abd Allah ibn 'Umar, and he said: "This is merely from the footsteps of Satan." And likewise, Zaynab bint Umm Salamah said on that day—she was the most knowledgeable woman in Medina. And I went to 'Asim ibn 'Umar, and he said the same.
14254 - 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Khalaf ibn 'Abd al-Rahman al-Himsi narrated to us, [saying]: Muhammad ibn Shu'ayb ibn Shabur narrated to us, [saying]: Shayban ibn 'Abd al-Rahman narrated to us, [saying]: Mansur ibn al-Mu'tamir narrated to us, from Abu al-Duha, from Masruq, [who] said: 'Abd Allah [ibn Mas'ud] was brought some udder [of an animal] and salt, and he began to eat. A man from the group withdrew. Ibn Mas'ud said: "Hand it to your companion." He said: "I do not want it." He asked: "Are you fasting?" He said: "No." He asked: "Then what is the matter with you?" He said: "I have vowed never to eat udder [again]." Ibn Mas'ud said: "This is from the footsteps of Satan. So eat, and offer expiation for your oath."
(1). Al-Hakim, 2/313, said: "It is authentic according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs [al-Bukhari and Muslim]," and al-Dhahabi agreed with him.
