Translation · EN

His saying: "That they should give to those of kinship."

14275 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj narrated to us, [saying]: Usamah narrated to us, from Hisham ibn 'Urwah, [who] informed me [saying]: 'Urwah informed me, from 'Aisha, [who] said: Allah revealed: "That they should give to those of kinship"—meaning Mistah.

14276 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, [saying]: Ibn Bukayr narrated to us, [saying]: Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to me, [saying]: 'Ata' narrated to me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr regarding the saying of Allah: "That they should give to those of kinship"—meaning Mistah ibn Uthatha, the relative of Abu Bakr and the son of his maternal aunt. It was narrated from Muqatil ibn Hayyan something similar to that.

His saying: "And the poor."

14277 - By the same chain, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr regarding the saying of Allah: "And the poor"—meaning, because Mistah was poor. "And the emigrants in the cause of Allah"—meaning, because Mistah was one of the emigrants in the cause of Allah, meaning in the obedience of Allah.

His saying: "And let them pardon."

14278 - I read to Muhammad ibn al-Fadl, [saying]: Muhammad ibn 'Ali narrated to us, [saying]: Muhammad ibn Muzahim narrated to us, [saying]: Bukayr ibn Ma'ruf narrated to us, from Muqatil ibn Hayyan: Mistah was one of the Muslims, and he was among the poor who emigrated in the cause of Allah. So Allah commanded Abu Bakr and those who had sworn with him to spend on Mistah, and that they should pardon and overlook.

14279 - Ahmad ibn Mansur al-Ramadi narrated to us, [saying]: 'Uthman ibn 'Umar narrated to us, [saying]: Shu'bah narrated to us, from Yahya al-Mujabbir, [who] said: I heard Abu Majid say: I saw 'Abd Allah [ibn Mas'ud] when a man was brought to him who was intoxicated (1). He said: "Smell his breath (2), shake him (3)." He said: They did so, and they found him intoxicated. He said: He called for a whip, and ordered that its tip be broken. He said: And he was wearing a qaba' or a qurtaq (tunic). He said to a man: "Strike, and raise your hand, and give every limb its due." Then he said to the man who brought him: "What are you to him?" He said: "His uncle." He said: "You have not taught him manners well, nor have you shielded him. 'And let them pardon and overlook. Do you not love that Allah should forgive you?' [24:22]" Then 'Abd Allah said: "I surely remember the first man the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) had his hand cut off. A man was brought, and when he ordered for his hand to be cut off, he [the Prophet] said, as if it split his complexion [of sadness], so it was said: 'O Messenger of Allah, this...'
