His saying: "Over their chests."

14407 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, [saying]: Yahya ibn 'Abd Allah narrated to us, [who said]: Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to me, [who said]: 'Ata' narrated to me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, regarding the saying of Allah: "And let them strike with their head coverings over their chests," [he] means the upper part of the chest (nahr) and the chest (sadr), and nothing of it is to be seen. It was also narrated from Muqatil ibn Hayyan that he said: "Over their bosoms."

His saying: "And not expose their adornment."

14408 - Through him, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr: "And not expose their adornment," [he] said: And they should not remove the jilbab, which is the covering (qina') worn over the head covering (khimar).

His saying: "Except to their husbands."

14409 - My father narrated to us, [saying]: Abu Salih narrated to us, [who said]: Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas: "And not expose their adornment except to their husbands," [he] said: She should not expose her anklets, armbands, upper chest, or hair except to her husband.

His saying: "Or their fathers," up to His saying: "Or the sons of their sisters."

14410 - Through him, from Ibn 'Abbas: "And not expose their adornment except to their husbands or their fathers, or the fathers of their husbands," up to: "or what their right hands possess." The adornment that she may expose to these people consists of her earrings, her necklace, and her bracelets. As for her anklets, her armbands, her upper chest, and her hair, she does not expose that except to her husband.

14411 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj narrated to us, [saying]: Ibn Yaman narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Juwaybir, from al-Dahhak: "And not expose their adornment except to their husbands or their fathers," [he] said: The upper chest and the earring.

14412 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj narrated to us, [saying]: Ibn 'Ulayyah narrated to us, from Ayyub al-Sakhtiyani, who said: I said to Sa'id ibn Jubayr: "Does a man see the head of his wife's daughter?" He then recited to me: "And not expose their adornment except to their husbands or their fathers or the fathers of their husbands..." [and] he said: "I do not see her among them [the allowed relatives]."

14413 - My father narrated to us, [saying]: Hisham ibn 'Ubayd Allah narrated to us, [who said]: Ibn al-Mubarak narrated to us, from Sufyan, from al-Mansur, from Ibrahim regarding this verse: "And not expose their adornment except to their husbands," [he] said: "He looks at what is above the garment."
