[The Statement of the Exalted: "Rather, this large one of theirs did it, so ask them."]
13675 - From Abu Hurayrah, he said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "Abraham never lied about anything at all except for three, all of which were for the sake of Allah: his statement, 'Indeed, I am ill' (when he was not ill), his statement to Sarah, 'My sister,' and his statement, 'Rather, this large one of theirs did it.'"
The Statement of the Exalted: "Then they were turned back upon their heads."
13676 - From Ibn Zayd, regarding "Then they were turned back upon their heads," he said: "In their reasoning/opinion."
The Statement of the Exalted: "They said: 'Burn him and support your gods.'"
13677 - Abu 'Ubayd Allah, son of the brother of Ibn Wahb, narrated to us, my uncle narrated to me, Jarir ibn Hazim narrated to us that Nafi' narrated to him, he said: A freedwoman of al-Fakih ibn al-Mughirah al-Makhzumi narrated to me, she said: I entered upon 'Aishah and saw a spear in her house, and I said: "O Mother of the Believers, what will you do with this spear?" She replied: "We kill these geckos (wazagh) with it, for the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: 'Indeed, when Abraham was cast into the fire, there was no creature on earth that did not extinguish the fire, except the gecko, for it was blowing [air] upon Abraham, so the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) commanded us to kill it.'"
13678 - From al-Minhal ibn 'Amr, he said: I was informed that Abraham was cast into the fire and remained in it for either fifty or forty [days], he said: "I never had days and nights in which I lived a better life than when I was in it; I wished that my entire life had been like my life when I was in it."
The Statement of the Exalted: "O fire, be coolness and safety upon Abraham."
13679 - From Shamir ibn 'Atiyyah, he said: When they intended to cast Abraham into the fire, the angel in charge of sending down rain called out: "O Lord, Your friend hopes that he may be permitted, so he will send down rain." Allah said: "O fire, be coolness and safety upon Abraham." And there remained no fire on earth on that day that did not become cool.
13680 - From Ibn 'Abbas, he said: "Had He not said 'and safety' (salaman), the cold would have killed him."
