hoping that she would conceive by the Qurashi man, so he would seek the ransom for his child. Therefore, Allah said: "And do not force your slave girls to prostitution if they desire chastity."

14528 - 'Abd Allah ibn Sulayman ibn al-Ash'ath narrated to us, [saying]: al-Husayn ibn 'Ali reported, [saying]: 'Amir ibn al-Furat reported, [saying]: Asbat reported from al-Suddi regarding "And do not force your slave girls to prostitution," he said: It was revealed concerning 'Abd Allah ibn Ubayy ibn Salul, the leader of the hypocrites. He had a slave girl called Mu'adhah, and whenever a guest stayed with him, he would send her to him to have intercourse with her, desiring the reward from him and to honor him. The slave girl came to Abu Bakr and complained about that to him. Abu Bakr mentioned it to the Prophet (peace be upon him), and he commanded him to seize her. 'Abd Allah ibn Ubayy shouted: "Who will excuse us from Muhammad? He is overcoming us regarding our slaves." So Allah revealed this concerning them.

14529 - I read to Muhammad ibn al-Fadl, [saying]: Muhammad ibn 'Ali ibn al-Hasan reported, [saying]: Muhammad ibn Muzahim reported, [saying]: Bukayr ibn Ma'ruf reported from Muqatil ibn Hayyan regarding His saying: "And do not force your slave girls to prostitution," he said: Do not force them to adultery. It has reached us—and Allah knows best—that it was revealed concerning two men who were forcing two slave girls of theirs to adultery; one of them was called Musaykah and she belonged to the Ansar, and Umaymah, the mother of Musaykah, belonged to 'Abd Allah ibn Ubayy; and Mu'adhah and Arwa were of that same status. Musaykah and her mother came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and mentioned that to him, so Allah the Exalted revealed regarding that: "And do not force your slave girls to prostitution," meaning adultery.

His saying, the Exalted: "if they desire chastity."

14530 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, [saying]: al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid informed us, [saying]: Yazid ibn Zuray' reported, [saying]: Sa'id reported from Qatadah regarding His saying: "if they desire chastity," meaning: chastity and good conduct.

14531 - Muhammad ibn al-Fadl narrated to us, [saying]: Muhammad ibn 'Ali reported, [saying]: Muhammad ibn Muzahim reported, [saying]: Bukayr ibn Ma'ruf reported from Muqatil ibn Hayyan: "if they desire chastity," meaning: they seek to remain chaste from adultery.

His saying, the Exalted: "to seek the enjoyment of the worldly life."

14532 - Muhammad ibn Hammad al-Tahrani narrated to me, [saying]: Hafs ibn 'Umar al-'Adani informed us, [saying]: al-Hakam ibn Aban reported from 'Ikrimah regarding "to seek the enjoyment of the worldly life," meaning: the tribute.

14533 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, [saying]: Yahya ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Bukayr reported, [saying]: Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to me
