14668 - 'Abd Allah ibn Sulayman ibn al-Ash'ath narrated to us, [saying]: al-Husayn ibn 'Ali ibn Mihran reported to us, [saying]: 'Amir ibn al-Furat reported to us, [saying]: Asbat reported to us, from al-Suddi, regarding His saying: "But those who disbelieved - their deeds are like a mirage in a lowland which the thirsty one thinks is water," he said: This is a parable for the deeds of the disbeliever.
His saying: "Like a mirage."

14669 - My father narrated to us, [saying]: Abu Salih reported to us, [saying]: Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "Like a mirage in a lowland," he says: A level land.
[The Second Aspect]
14670 - Al-Hasan ibn Muhammad ibn al-Sabah narrated to us, [saying]: Yahya ibn 'Abbad reported to us, [saying]: Shaybah reported to us, from al-Suddi, from Abu Salih: The mirage is the winds.
His saying, the Exalted: "In a lowland (qi'ah)."
14671 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, [saying]: Shababah reported to us, [saying]: Warqa' reported to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid(1), regarding His saying: "Like a mirage in a lowland," [it means] in a stretch of land, and the mirage is the deed of the disbeliever.
14672 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, [saying]: al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid informed us, [saying]: Yazid ibn Zuray' reported to us, from Sa'id, from Qatadah, regarding His saying: "But those who disbelieved - their deeds are like a mirage in a lowland," i.e., in a desert of land.
His saying: "Which the thirsty one thinks is water."
14673 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, [saying]: 'Ubayd Allah ibn Musa reported to us, from Isra'il, from his father, from the Companions of Muhammad (ﷺ), who said: "The disbelievers will be resurrected on the Day of Resurrection, arriving thirsty, and they will say: 'Where is the water?' So the mirage will appear before them, and they will think it is water. They will go towards it, and they will find Allah at it, and He will pay them their account in full. And Allah is swift in account."
14674 - Muhammad ibn Sa'd al-'Awfi informed us in what he wrote to me, [saying]: My father narrated to me, my uncle narrated to me, my father narrated to me, from his father, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "But those who disbelieved - their deeds are like a mirage in a lowland which the thirsty one thinks is water," he said: It is a parable that Allah, the Almighty and Exalted, set forth, like a man who is thirsty and his thirst is intense, so he sees a mirage and thinks it is water, so he seeks it, and he thinks that he has obtained it until he comes to it; then when he comes to it,"

١٤٦٦٨ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ الأَشْعَثَ، ثنا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ مِهْرَانَ، ثنا عَامِرُ بْنُ الْفُرَاتِ، ثنا أَسْبَاطٌ، عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ قوله: والذين كفروا أعمالهم كسراب بقيعة يحسبه الظَّمْآنُ مَاءً قَالَ: هَذَا مَثَلُ أَعْمَالِ الْكَافِرِ.

١٤٦٦٩ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا أَبُو صَالِحٍ، حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قوله: كَسَرَابٍ بِقِيعَةٍ يَقُولُ: أَرْضٌ مُسْتَوِيَةٌ.

١٤٦٧٠ - حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الصَّبَّاحِ، ثنا يحي بْنُ عَبَّادٍ، ثنا شَيْبَةُ، عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ: السَّرَابُ الرِّيَاحُ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: بِقِيعَةٍ.
١٤٦٧١ - حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ حَمْزَةَ، ثنا شَبَابَةُ، ثنا وَرْقَاءُ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ «١» قوله كَسَرَابٍ بِقِيعَةٍ بِقَاعٍ مِنَ الأَرْضِ وَالسَّرَابُ عَمَلُ الْكَافِرِ.
١٤٦٧٢ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، أَنْبَأَ الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ، ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ عَنْ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ قَوْلُهُ: وَالَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا أَعْمَالُهُمْ كَسَرَابٍ بِقِيعَةٍ أَيْ بِفَلاةٍ مِنَ الأَرْضِ.
قَوْلُهُ: يَحْسَبُهُ الظَّمْآنُ مَاءً.
١٤٦٧٣ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الأَشَجُّ، ثنا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُوسَى، عَنْ إِسْرَائِيلَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَصْحَابِ مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالُوا: إِنَّ الْكُفَّارَ يُبْعَثُونَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وِرْدًا عِطَاشًا فَيَقُولُونَ: أَيْنَ الْمَاءُ؟ فَيَمْثُلُ لَهُمُ السَّرَابُ، فَيَحْسَبُونُهُ مَاءً، فَيَنْطَلِقُونَ إِلَيْهِ فَيَجِدُونَ اللَّهَ عِنْدَهُ فَيُوَفِّيهِمْ حِسَابَهُمْ وَاللَّهُ سَرِيعُ الْحِسَابِ.
١٤٦٧٤ - أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ الْعَوْفِيُّ فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، حَدَّثَنِي عَمِّي، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ فِي قَوْلِهِ: وَالَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا أَعْمَالُهُمْ كسراب بقيعة يحسبه الظَّمْآنُ مَاءً قَالَ: هُوَ مَثَلٌ ضَرَبَهُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ كَرَجُلٍ عَطِشَ فَاشْتَدَّ عَطَشُهُ، فَرَأَى سَرَابًا، فَحَسِبَهُ مَاءً فَطَلَبَهُ، فَظَنَّ أَنَّهُ قَدَرَ عَلَيْهِ حَتَّى أتاه، فلما أتاه
