from Juwaybir, from al-Dahhak, regarding His saying: "And you see the rain" (fataral-wadqa), he said: The wadq is the rain.
The second view:
14711 - My father narrated to us, [saying]: 'Ali ibn Nasr reported to us, [saying]: 'Amr ibn 'Asim reported to us, [saying]: Abu al-Ashhab reported to us, [saying]: Abu Tumaylah, a man from Banu Juman, reported to me from his father, [regarding] "And you see the rain" (fataral-wadqa) emerging, he said: It is lightning.
His saying: "emerging from within it."
14712 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi reported to us in what he wrote to me, [saying]: Asbagh ibn al-Faraj informed us, [saying]: I heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd saying regarding the saying of Allah: "And you see the rain emerging from within it," he said: The "within" (al-khilal) is the clouds.
His saying: "And He sends down from the sky, from mountains within it, of hail, and He strikes with it whom He wills and averts it from whom He wills."
14713 - My father narrated to us, [saying]: Hisham ibn 'Ammar reported to us, [saying]: al-Yaman ibn 'Adi al-Himsi reported to us, [saying]: Yafi' ibn 'Amir reported to us, from Qatadah, from Ka'b, who said: Were it not for the fact that the hail descends from the fourth heaven, it would not pass by anything without destroying it.
14714 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, [saying]: al-Muqaddami reported to us, [saying]: Abu Ma'shar reported to us, from 'Abd al-Jalil, from Shahr ibn Hawshab, that Ka'b asked 'Abd Allah ibn 'Amr about the lightning. He said: It is what precedes the hail. And Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, said: "mountains within it, of hail; the flash of its lightning nearly takes away the eyesight."
His saying, the Exalted: "And He strikes with it whom He wills and averts it from whom He wills."
14715 - Muhammad ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Yazid al-Muqri' narrated to us, [saying]: Sufyan reported to us, [saying]: I heard 'Amr ibn Dinar saying: "And He strikes with it whom He wills," so it strikes.
His saying: "And averts it from whom He wills."
14716 - My father narrated to us, [saying]: 'Amr ibn 'Awn reported to us, [saying]: 'Abd al-Salam ibn Harb reported to us, from Ziyad ibn Khaythama, from Abu Ja'far, who said: The thunderbolt strikes the believer and the disbeliever, but it does not strike one who remembers Allah, the Mighty and Majestic.
