‘Abd al-Rahman ibn ‘Abd al-Hamid al-Masri, saying: I see the caliphate of Abu Bakr and ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) in the Book of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). Allah (Blessed and Most High) says: "Allah has promised those among you who believe and do righteous deeds that He will surely make them successors in the earth," to the end of the verse.
14765 - It was mentioned from ‘Ubayd Allah ibn Musa, Fudayl ibn Marzuq reported from ‘Atiyyah regarding His saying: "Allah has promised those among you who believe and do righteous deeds that He will surely make them successors in the earth." He said: They are the people of this house here, and he pointed with his hand toward the Qiblah.
His saying (Most High): "in the earth."
14766 - I read to Muhammad ibn al-Fadl ibn Musa, Muhammad ibn ‘Ali reported to us, Muhammad ibn Muzahim reported to us, Bukayr ibn Ma‘ruf reported to us, from Muqatil ibn Hayyan regarding His saying: "that He will surely make them successors in the earth," meaning the land of al-Madinah.
His saying (Most High): "as He made those before them successors."
14767 - ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Abi Hammad reported to us, al-Hakam ibn Bashir reported to us, from ‘Amr ibn Qays, from Abu Ishaq, from al-Bara’ regarding His saying: "Allah has promised those among you who believe and do righteous deeds that He will surely make them successors in the earth as He made those before them successors." It was revealed concerning us while we were in great fear.
14768 - It was mentioned from Abu Hudhayfah, from Sufyan, from a man, from Muhammad ibn Ka‘b regarding: "Allah has promised those among you who believe and do righteous deeds that He will surely make them successors in the earth as He made those before them successors." He said: It was revealed concerning the rulers.
14769 - It was mentioned from Yahya ibn Abi al-Khatib, al-Walid ibn Muslim reported to us, Safwan ibn ‘Amr reported to us, from Shurayh ibn ‘Ubayd, from ‘Amr al-Bakkali, from Ka‘b al-Ahbar, who said: They are twelve; when they pass away, another twelve like them will be placed in their stead. Such is the promise of Allah to this Ummah. He then recited: "Allah has promised those among you who believe and do righteous deeds that He will surely make them successors in the earth as He made those before them successors." This is how He acted toward the Children of Israel.
His saying (Most High): "And He will surely establish for them their religion which He has chosen for them."
14770 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-‘Abbas ibn al-Walid reported to us, Yazid ibn Zuray‘ reported to us, [narrating from]...
عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ الْمِصْرِيَّ، يَقُولُ: أَرَى وِلايَةَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا فِي كِتَابِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ، يَقُولُ اللَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى: وَعَدَ اللَّهُ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مِنْكُمْ وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ لَيَسْتَخْلِفَنَّهُمْ فِي الأَرْضِ الآيَةَ.
١٤٧٦٥ - ذُكِرَ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُوسَى، أَنْبَأَ فُضَيْلُ بْنُ مَرْزُوقٍ، عَنْ عَطِيَّةَ فِي قَوْلِهِ وَعَدَ اللَّهُ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مِنْكُمْ وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ لَيَسْتَخْلِفَنَّهُمْ فِي الأَرْضِ قَالَ: أَهْلُ بَيْتٍ هَاهُنَا وَأَشَارَ بِيَدِهِ إِلَى الْقِبْلَةِ.

١٤٧٦٦ - قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ مُوسَى، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُزَاحِمٍ، ثنا بُكَيْرُ بْنُ مَعْرُوفٍ، عَنْ مُقَاتِلِ بْنِ حَيَّانَ قوله: لَيَسْتَخْلِفَنَّهُمْ فِي الأَرْضِ يَعْنِى أَرْضَ الْمَدِينَةِ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: كَمَا اسْتَخْلَفَ الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ
١٤٧٦٧ - حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي حَمَّادٍ، ثنا الْحَكَمُ بْنُ بَشِيرٍ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ قَيْسٍ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنِ الْبَرَاءِ قَوْلُهُ: وَعَدَ اللَّهُ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مِنْكُمْ وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ لَيَسْتَخْلِفَنَّهُمْ فِي الأَرْضِ كَمَا اسْتَخْلَفَ الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ فِينَا نَزَلَتْ وَنَحْنُ فِي خَوْفٍ شَدِيدٍ.
١٤٧٦٨ - ذُكِرَ، عَنْ أَبِي حُذَيْفَةَ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ كَعْبٍ وَعَدَ اللَّهُ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مِنْكُمْ وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ لَيَسْتَخْلِفَنَّهُمْ فِي الأَرْضِ كَمَا اسْتَخْلَفَ الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ قَالَ: نَزَلَتْ فِي الْوُلَاةِ.
١٤٧٦٩ - ذُكِرَ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي الْخَطِيبِ، ثنا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ، ثنا صَفْوَانَ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ شُرَيْحِ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ، عَنْ عَمْرٍو الْبَكَّالِيِّ، عَنْ كَعْبِ الأَحْبَارِ قَالَ: هُمُ اثْنَا عَشَرَ، فَإِذَا كَانَ عِنْدَ انْقِضَائِهِمْ فَيُجْعَلُ مَكَانَ اثْنَيْ عَشَرَ اثْنَا عَشَرَ مِثْلُهُمْ وَكَذَلِكَ وَعَدَ اللَّهُ هَذِهِ الأُمَّةَ فَقَرَأَ: وَعَدَ اللَّهُ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مِنْكُمْ وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ لَيَسْتَخْلِفَنَّهُمْ فِي الأَرْضِ كَمَا اسْتَخْلَفَ الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ وَكَذَلِكَ فَعَلَ بِبَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: وَلَيُمَكِّنَنَّ لَهُمْ دِينَهَمُ الَّذِي ارْتَضَى لَهُمْ
