those whom your right hands possess and those who have not [yet] reached puberty among you [three times]. Before the dawn prayer.

Some of the companions of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) used to like to have intercourse with their wives during these hours, in order to perform ghusl (ritual washing) and then go out to prayer. So Allah commanded them to order their slaves and young boys not to enter upon them during those hours except with permission.

His saying (the Exalted): "And those who have not [yet] reached puberty among you."

[The First Aspect]

14797 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih reported to us, Mu‘awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from ‘Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn ‘Abbas regarding His saying: "Let them ask your permission, those whom your right hands possess and those who have not [yet] reached puberty among you," he says: When a man is alone with his wife after the ‘Isha’ (night) prayer, no servant or child should enter upon him except with his permission, until he performs the morning prayer.

14798 - Abu Zur‘ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn ‘Abd Allah ibn Bukayr reported to us, Ibn Lahi‘ah reported to us, ‘Ata’ narrated to me, from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr regarding Allah's saying: "And those who have not [yet] reached puberty among you," he means the children who have not yet reached the age of puberty—and a similar statement to that of Sa‘id ibn Jubayr was narrated from Mujahid.

And the Second Aspect:

14799 - My father narrated to us, ‘Abd Allah ibn Musa reported to us, Sufyan reported to us, from Ibn Jurayj, from ‘Amr ibn Dinar, from a man whom he named, he said: It is in some of the recitations: "Or those whom your right hands possess who have not reached puberty among you."

His saying (the Exalted): "Among you"

14800 - Muhammad ibn ‘Ammar ibn al-Harith narrated to us, al-Walid ibn Salih reported to us, Sharik reported to us, from Isma‘il ibn Muslim, from al-Hasan regarding His saying: "And those who have not [yet] reached puberty among you," he said: Your children.

14801 - Abu Zur‘ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn ‘Abd Allah reported to us, Ibn Lahi‘ah reported to us, ‘Ata’ narrated to me, from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr regarding Allah's saying: "Among you," he means the free people.

14802 - I read to Muhammad ibn al-Fadl, Muhammad ibn ‘Ali reported to us, Muhammad ibn Muzahim reported to us, Bukayr ibn Ma‘ruf reported to us, from Muqatil ibn Hayyan: "And those who have not [yet] reached puberty among you," from among your free people, both men and women.
