This is among the obligatory injunctions. It is incumbent upon a man to order those who are [with him], whether free or slave, not to enter during those three hours except with permission.

14811 - Abu Zur‘ah narrated to us, Yahya reported to us, Ibn Lahi‘ah narrated to me, ‘Ata’ narrated to me, from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr regarding Allah’s saying: "Three private times for you," he means: these are times of negligence and inattentiveness when a man is alone with his wife. Then He granted them a concession after these hours, saying: "There is no... blame upon you."

14812 - ‘Ali ibn al-Hasan narrated to us, Musaddad reported to us, Yahya ibn Sa‘id ibn Hanzalah ibn Abi Sufyan reported to us, he said: I heard al-Qasim ibn Muhammad being asked about the [requirement of] permission, and he said: He must ask permission at every private time, then there is movement [of servants] after that.

And regarding His saying: "Nor upon them," meaning the young children and the adult slaves. Regarding His saying: "Blame," meaning difficulty. And regarding His saying: "Beyond that [time]," meaning after the three private times.

14814 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih reported to us, Mu‘awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from ‘Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn ‘Abbas regarding His saying: "Beyond that [time]," he said: He granted them a concession to enter during those [times] without permission. This is His saying: "There is no blame upon you [or upon them] beyond that [time]."
